A significant proportion of American banks in the orbit of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation ( FDIC ) are productively studying cryptospace to provide their customers with retail services in accordance with consumer demand. The official FDIC report demonstrated that at the time of January this year, 136 credit organizations planned or participated in various projects related to digital currencies.
The document reported that due to the lack of a structural regulatory framework, banks in the main cooperate with third-party organizations to work in the cryptocurrency sector. According to experts, the growing number of credit companies in this direction reflects a steady demand for services related to cryptocurrencies. It also indirectly reflects the high popularity of major digital assets.
At the same time, experts emphasized that now 16% of Americans ( 52 million people ) own cryptocurrencies. Of this group, more than 46,000 users have lost a total of over $ 1 billion due to fraud since 2021.
FDIC experts emphasized their skepticism about this class of assets, believing that the industry carries significant and systemic risks for the segment of traditional finance.
