Have you heard about Hadron Cloud? It's a browser-based mining interface currently in the Alpha phase.
With Hadron you can open one or multiple tabs, go on their website, and mine coins! The hit on performance can be noticeable on lower-end systems, but for most desktops you probably won't notice anything significant (at least with two tabs open, which is the maximum I am allowed to have right now).
It's an interesting project for two reasons. First, if you want to see what mining is like, it doesn't get much easier than that. It's a good introduction to mining and cryptocurrencies in general.
Second, there could be a lot of possibilities for partnerships with other websites and so on.
For now, this is just an interesting project worth trying for anyone curious about cryptos.
