Why Cryptocurrency won't make the world a better place.

I am far too new to understand most of the drama surrounding berniesanders and haiejin and the intricate nuances of this platform in general. I'm not taking sides per se, as I just don't know enough history behind all of these individuals beyond my short stay here on Steemit. What I can add though, is that for someone who writes an awful lot of posts about how terribly unfair Steemit is to the minnows and newbies, and how some users, like haiejin, are taking up too much of the resource pool, nearly $300 for a 22 word post is pretty erm...excessive? I will let you draw your own conclusions there though.

I was just replying to a comment earlier that went on about how cryptocurrency is going to change the landscape of life as we know it. That I agree with. I think Steemit, BTC, DogeCoin (I can't even hahaha) and other cryptos will force the federal government to take some kind of action. They will no longer be in control of at least part of currency exchange, which I believe is why so many big wigs at the top of the stock market and banking food chains are poo-pooing the absolute inevitability of cryptocurrency being a thang. I mean, give me a break, these are the same fools who denied that there was a housing bubble, and maintained that everything was hunky f*ing dory. (Of course they were also bailed out, and many of them knew they were too big to fail, so they perhaps aren't afraid of anything anymore. Why should they be.) Anyway, I'm getting off track here. Getting back to my original point, I agree that crypto is going to revolutionize money as we know it, but this person I was replying to, more specifically decried that crypto would make the world a better place. We would all be living harmoniously. The wrong people wouldn't have the financial power anymore...and this is where we started to part ways.

(We have a currency made from a meme. WE HAVE A CURRENCY MADE FROM A MEME. What a time to be alive!)

People. Humans. Homo-Sapiens. Civilization is a little more than 6,000 years old. Prior to that we were still the same sex-loving, money-hungry people we are now, we just didn't really know how to lay it out in a proper way. We settled down, we learned how to farm, we built great civilizations. We recorded our history, we established trade and eventual currency. There were nice people and there were assholes. There were kings and there were slaves, but always many more slaves. I think the idea that we may all have an equal chance to rise up may make crypto more enticing and exciting. It's a potential illusion that eliminating the evil middle man, the Fed, the government, the banks, etc. will make things will run more smoothly and eradicate evildoings. If wealth was in the hands of your friendly neighborhood gaming nerd rather than the Goldman Sachs trust fund baby, the world would start to turn for the better. I think the clear problem with this, is that we are still humans. We have developed over thousands of years, but the basic fundamentals of human behavior haven't changed much, right? We still fight over love interests, we stab each other in the back, we pillage, we murder, we judge, we envy, we cheat, we are rarely satisfied. We are human.

Cryptocurrency may be an awesome way to get compensated for something you might otherwise not, like writing a blog post for instance, but I just don't think it is going to be the life altering answer to human kindness, or closeness. We can see this happening on Steemit for goodness sakes. For the most part it has been a beautiful, welcoming environment with those around me, but what is happening below the surface? Rather, what is happening at the very top? Whales fighting each other and deliberately attempting to trip one another up instead of coming together to continue to build what could truly be an awesome platform. Money gets in the way, as it always has and always will, no matter what form it comes in or who is the handler.

(Money is akin to the great ring. Some of the beings are more immune to it, but no one is completely. Everyone can see themselves with a certain amount of power, and they become warped by it.)

Fret not though friends. I am not throwing Steemit to the wolves, or saying that there is no hope for humanity. But I do think there are some that could be a tad more realistic about their expectations from this platform and subsequent ones to come, especially after taking a good hard look at how those on the top behave once they have reached their ultimate status. Some of them are really great, super helpful and kind. Some of them are twats. It's the same mixed bag you get in any part of civilization. Perhaps I am just a debbie downer, but I do like to be realistic. Realism brought me here in the first place. Realizing that I wasn't getting what I wanted or needed from other social media platforms, but also understanding that people are still going to be people no matter where they are.

If you made it to the end, here's a cookie, I baked some myself today, but they definitely don't look this good, so stock photo it is. Happy Almost Christmas Eve!

Wao, that is a new thing I have seen in crypto blogs. Well, right now all the people are getting in crypto to increase their hard cash. Hard cash is the real thing and everyone want to increase it.

Right, but this blog was mainly in response to the notion that crypto is going to somehow save the world. I see a lot of people talking about it like that, and it just sort of baffles me. Will it potentially make people more wealthy? Sure. Will that make them better people? Probably not. I guess it's as simple as that and I didn't need to ramble on for 5 paragraphs, but there ya go.

One of the things that technical disintermediation attempts to solve is the issue of unlimited money. Limited SOV currencies like bitcoin can force governments to ask permission instead of cranking up the printing press (assuming a massive equity drain from flag currencies). What this attempts to accomplish is forcing leaders to fight with something closer to sticks and stones instead of nukes. The only way world wars are possible is through sticking the debt onto future generations. If that can't be accomplished, wars stop due to cost.

The tricky part is what to do with the nukes once there's no money left to pay the engineers to dismantle their creation. Some say that we shouldn't, mustn't, but the reality is that this is already done. The old world isn't coming back.

Very interesting perspective. It will be interesting to see how crypto plays out. In theory, it hopefully it could eliminate banks, central banks, and the fed, freeing us all from debt slavery. Will it happen? We'll see.........

It will most definitely make the need for them unnecessary. Though, there is always a catch, and the conversions are the catch at the moment. There is still a middle man because so few places take bitcoin. I can't exactly pay my regular bills with bitcoin. And there may indeed be the rub. The government could potentially incentivize businesses to not accept crypto, inherently still forcing citizens to use USD (or whatever currency in "insert country here". This would allow people to still make money through BTC but the two problems with that are:
1.) You still have to pay exorbitant fees to a middle man company that will convert your money.
2.) Once it is converted, you have to store it somewhere. Once it makes its way into a bank account it is now taxable and all of the advantages that you had when it was still digital are gone. I def don't think the Fed is going to take this lying down, and that is my guess on how they will try to combat it. That or making a FedCoin, but that's for another time to discuss.

The concept is still in its infancy. With some adjustments, who knows?

I agree 100%. They will not take this lying down. They will try to regulate it into oblivion. I believe they have enough money to manipulate the price up and down, to make it appear to be unstabe, forcing people to second guess investing in crypto.

Time will tell........

I agree in a sense. Crypto wont save the world from its problems. In some cases its definitely making day to day life easier/more affordable. For example the use of ripple when implemented to make wire transfers cheaper helps everyone involved, of course not the bigger businesses but they make to much money as is. Thats the only reason the goverments hate them because it spreads the wealth more. Well written article thanks for sharing.

Oh definitely. I wasn't trying to bash on crypto or say that it won't be immensely helpful and utterly life-changing in our near future, just people tend to get a little mushy about it and I'm not really into all that. I don't think it's going to change the hearts of man or something crazy like that!

I think the biggest fallacy would be to think that the same Banksters that manipulate fiat currency, wouldn't be able to manipulate crypto. They could do this in a number of ways. They could buy in and create a whale. They could hire a team of people that as a collective create a whale and I'm certain that I missed a few things like robotics here. The point is that with a whale, or a pod of whales, it would be relatively easy to dictate what happens by throwing that weight around.
All that aside, one should never lose sight of the fact that you only own your House as long as you pay your property taxes, and if you don't pay, they'll take your House. Now they want payment in Dollars and not Crypto, and as long as it's possible to convert crypto to cash, they have a way to manipulate us.
Liked this post as there is no need to wake up sleep deprived you and you quickly made some astute observations in the short time you've been here. Greetings!

Cheers to both this post and comment. The idea of money its self is a centralization concept - Gathering power around a biological being. We must truly evolve as a society to escape its grasps.
