By the way I have a contrarian view on Etherem dump. I'm guessing it will not happen. As I see it the only place to go is into Steem, and with registration limited, many will be hesitant to invest until with get a better understanding and a direct experience of this revolutionary platform. So that only really leaves bitcoin. To me bitcoin its a "dead man walking". Its like IBM in the era of Apple Computer! :-)
Bitcoin is perfect the way it is now, working great for a very select few who are financially elite, with no chance of going mainstream because the mainstream fears it. The scary bitcoin stories keeps them away while the price slowly rises from scarcity. It's already too expensive for the average person to consider, it's the best kept secret that everyone knows about.
Agreed wholeheartedly that post limits need to be applied to mitigate drowning the good content out with superfluous crap.
Don't be so sure on the ETH dump. It's early days and only takes a few Whales make a massive change in price for their own advantage (which us tiny fish can capitalise on in you can react fast enough).
Bitcoin is digital gold and will always be around. Another comparison in opposition to "like IBM in the era of Apple Computer" is...
"It's like Lego in the era of ipads. People still keep buying and building it". It'll stand the test of time for sure :)
I understand the idea of having unlimited posts, since it allows more content, but if it were limited like you said, for a newbie account perhaps something like 3 posts a day limit, it seems like it would increase the quality of posts.
To be honest, I noticed that no matter how many post you make, it does not really increase your earning. It seems that quality post would be the one bringing the votes from those high steem powered accounts. What are your views guys?
my view is to simply enjoy those money making posts for what they are and stop caring about what "whales" do, and do my thing. I am satisfied with earning 1% interest daily on my steem power, and anything else is a nice bonus. When ned or dan votes on my post I only get about $200 because I already have allot of steem power, the less steem power a person has is the more they get from a "whale" upvote, that's whats great about the blockchain, it's all relatively fair.
I noticed the voting power during some of the outages when I was checking out steemd.com. There are a couple of ways to look at this.
If your voting power is high then you are not voting very often.
If your voting power is low then you are voting a lot.
So I guess it depends on what your goal is. Do you want to focus on a few people and try to uplift a few people rapidly, or do you want to spread it around and vote on things you like.
I am a little more careful with my votes now that I know this, but I still vote quite a bit. I decided spreading it around was more important to me.
I also used to upvote all of my own posts (I think I saw that on one of your videos) because I tend to do a lot of replying to people. So I was diluting my power a lot by up voting myself. I very rarely up vote one of my own posts unless I am worried about it being lost in the masses. Most of the time it is not necessary.
increasing my voting power for the purposing of upvoting my own posts is the reason why I want my voting power higher, but I can't seem to resist voting on comments I enjoy, so what I am doing now is not voting on my own comments, and also only voting on comments that not only I enjoy but what I think others will also enjoy.
Join us! I started out after watching a video of him singing! I agree with the posting limits, maybe not on comments. Also keep up the good work. Be glad to see someone who inspired me to post stuff like this doing it for a living daily!
Yeah there should not be limits on posting comments. That'd really suck for conversations. Original posts though might not be hurt by such a limit. However, if you do allow people with more steem power to post more often you would be further consolidating the power. I'm not so sure that'd be a good idea either. If you're going to limit posts you might as well do it as a flat limit for everyone per day.
Well my vote isn't worth much at the moment. I tend to vote on all of your posts, and some of your replies when I come across them... Keep up the entertaining videos. I am not brave enough to video blog.
Poloniex have delayed conversions of DAO to ether for 2 days. I suspect other exchanges may have similar delays. This could help create the delay which you mentioned.
Love the discussion of voting power. That was something I had not thought about - read about it earlier but then forgot about it. Will definitely be looking at being more selective at voting since I've been voting a lot. Damn you though will have to vote for this lol!
BTW where are you located - the weather always seems perfect:)
when ethereum price dumps in a few days as a result of the hard fork, steem will takes it's #2 spot and etheruem will never be able to get it back, because of steem power being locked up, and ether tokens are not
Thanks for the video, Craig. I'm totally with you and proto on the matter of the post limit. However, I think 3 posts a day is too limiting. Maybe just have a time limit. If certain users abuse them, perhaps they can be imposed a longer limit, like 3 posts a day. I haven't really thought about it though.
My recommendation is more geared towards getting users to buy steem and upgrade their steem power than about being fair. I trade steem so anything that is good for the price of steem is good for me.
I let my voting power increase back up to 88...I voted on a 3k post that was 2 hours old and it decreased my voting power down to 72. Most of the time I upvote and it rewards $.02 and takes 1-2 VP away. So, experiment with a high VP number on a new trending post with high upvote rewards. Enjoyed your video ! Thanks
nice studio, cnn.
I disagree about the post limit. In a normal society nobody has to be limited in taking. the selection of the quality is made by the pigeons, voting.
The biggest social problem is quality content getting buried and the whales creating division with potential, already seen upvoting mafias IMO
The biggest problem will be the divid
I've red somewhere that your voting power refreshes every 36 minutes so you would indeed need to wait for few days to get back to 100% or upvote much less than you do. To keep your voting power fresh good idea is to upvote somewhere up to 20 posts a day or vote every 40 minutes (but no one can do it) you can see your current voting power on link that craig posted but just swap hin name with yours like this https://steemd.com/@yourname .
Always enjoy your posts. Thats for the comments regarding Steemd. I had no idea of the site or the information available.
Additionallly, I do agree with it is becoming painfully obvious that spam and junk posts are becoming an issue, and think you are on to something regarding limiting the amount of posts. This will provde scarcity and give postabiliy value which will in turn rise the quality of the content.
Other ideas I've had regarding the issue:
