SCAM ALERT!! Do Not Invest BTC @ SierraHash.com!!!

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago  (edited)

I've been burned on this, so although it pains me a great deal to post here, I thought I'd share the info I found in the hope that no one else will lose their BTC to this scam as I can see people are currently still sending money to the shady wallet.

Key information I found after realising my error:

IMPORTANT EDIT (addition): Change your email password if you haven't already! Especially if you use the same one on multiple sites!

BTC address for sierrahash - quickly dropped from 49BTC to around 8BTC. Got back up to 12, then 4x 1BTC withdrawals to CkCYmVScaJByuKPKr1w8HegyWdAtuV9x7 whilst no one else could withdraw

• Article claiming it was a scam from December 5th (wish I saw this first!): https://www.scambitcoin.com/sierrahash/

• sierrahash registered details from Whois. I found a fuzzy matching search and found that there have been plenty of these before that were registered in Mayfair - London (must be a place for trading houses so good cover). Will be always using data and reputation checker site going forward!

• The Facebook page is closed down and some others are talking about it on Twitter.

• SierraHash address now tagged in relation to the scam here. Also worth bookmarking!

• If you attempt to withdraw, the message below will pop up (was missing this option altogether the other day, but must have been put back in to scoop up more BTC)

I posted about this site yesterday I think. It was a bit shady so I wanted to tell everyone also. Sorry you lost some Bitcoin.

Thanks @basicstoliving ! I've started to put it behind me which is all you can do. My own fault for giving in to FOMO. Strange thing is it never happens when I'm trading.... ha!

I just read your post now. Fair play! There's a good amount of information in there so let's hope the word starts spreading quick enough that others can avoid the pitfalls!

Hope it wasn't a very expensive lesson.

Thanks @fractalfreedom ! Unfortunately it stung quite a bit, but I'm sure I'll recover as although I ended up putting more in than was wise, I did manage to hold back quite a bit.

My main concern now is that no more people end up getting burned.

Seems these types of sites are a weekly thing now. Feel bad for the people that get their BTC taken. Hexabot last week and now this.

Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, it's a real shame as this really appeared ok when I first saw it. I guess if you've been burned once or are up to date on these things, you'll stay clear in future, but kills me to see all the BTC still being pumped into the account related to this (and others!).

I reckon those still putting money in are thinking the same as I was just two nights ago, but will be as gutted as me when they realise they can't withdraw and it's a scam.

Hopefully this post will help some people dodge the bullet though!

These hyips have been going up and down daily in crypto and the internet gor that fact for years now.... these programs can profit alot in you get in right away and or get refs alot...
Hell i have saw some go up and then scam the same day

Yeah, I was reading a lot from others saying exactly as you have, that if you find them and get in then out early enough, you can make a lot. I just think it's not right when you know that some people will potentially lose a large chunk of their cash to them.

One guy was saying he lost it all to this particular scam. Felt awful to read his comments.

Looks like the rate at which people are pumping in BTC to this one is actually increasing unfortunately.
