Bitcoin Cash - status after the chain split

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

A few hours after the split Blockchain Cash seemed unable to generate new blocks. That means no transaction took place. I watched the situation eagerly like it was a football game!

A blockchain explorer for Bitcoin Cash exists at https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/blocks

Approximately 5 hours after the split from Bitcoin they have succeeded in creating their first block - probably after the difficulty adjustment algorithm kicked in strongly to lower the difficulty. It is a block of almost 2 MB which can be seen in the picture bellow. It is 2 MB in size because 6985 transactions accumulated in the mempool in those 5 hours during which no block was generated.

After that monster 6985-transaction block got generated the blocks were created regularly, which shows that difficulty has dropped so that it matches the lower hash rate of the Blockchain Cash network.

On CoinMarketCap.com the new Bitcoin Cash seems to be the third coin when ordered by capitalization. After the split, the coin has grown to 435.58 USD, which is 15% of the current value of the classic Bitcoin.

The main markets which transact BitCoin cash seem to be Bittrex, Kraken and ViaBTC. The symbol of the coin is BCC or BCH depending on the market.

I will try to create some clear instructions on how to claim your Bitcoin Cash if you keep your Bitcoin in a Mycelium wallet account, and how to send it to an exchange. For now, it is not clear to me if it's best to sell the new coin or to keep it.

I'm trying to find a good exchange that has the BCH wallet up so I can transfer out of Bitfinex and sell. They don't have a market set up yet and you can't deposit into other exchanges since the wallets are down also.

Hello! I have tried several exchanges, and only HitBTC worked.
