Ethereum vs Bitcoin... I have been focusing more on Ethereum of late... I'm glad I did.

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

In early January I began shifting more of my investment from bitcoin into Ethereum. I'm glad I did. I invest in things I believe in. I do think bitcoin will continue to be a major player for some time, but I believe it's time is limited. I am no longer bullish on it.

So this recent decline hit and swept through all cryptos. Let me show you a few coinbase.com screenshots from today as I write this.

Bitcoin

53.07% decline since last month.

Bitcoin Cash

62.95% decline since last month.

Litecoin

49.16% decline since last month.

Ethereum

28.81% decline since last month.

Conclusion

So while I took a loss, I took a lot less of a loss due to being mostly in Ethereum than I would have a month earlier when I was mostly in Bitcoin.

I am no crypto expert, but I am learning.

I switched for three major reasons.

  1. The December miner fees for bitcoin transactions were so ridiculous that I decided that was the Achilles Heel of Bitcoin and was actually something worse than the speed issues. Thus, lightning network, and other ideas to speed it up are irrelevant as long as the huge fees (get worse as the value increases) exist. It is really only useful as an intermediary currency of exchange on an exchange to shapeshift between currencies. Actually moving it somewhere, and/or using it to purchase things is stupid. COinbase being able to sell it directly for fiat, or tie it to a SHIFT card also works as it never has to actually MOVE from the exchange so the fees are mitigated. In general though it is really poor as a currency mostly due to these fees. Yes, speed is an issue, but we can plan around that.

  2. I had watched Ethereum and it's price seemed a bit more stable in terms of peaks and valleys.

  3. I heard that Amazon had acquired some domain names. Two of those were Amazoncryptocurrency.com, and amazonethereum.com. I figured if Amazon actually does something with that that Ethereum would increase in value quite a bit.

Based upon that I switched my Bitcoin primarly to Ethereum but now I'm invested in somewhere around 30 to 50 cryptos. I took a loss which I expect to be short term, but it is much less of a loss than I would have taken if I hadn't switched to Ethereum.

Best

I by no means think Ethereum is the best out there. It is still slow and flawed. It is just better than bitcoin. I believe Steem, and especially EOS are superior to Ethereum. There are other currencies that are also superior, but as bitcoin has showed us, being the best technology does not guarantee being the most used crypto. Bitcoin has persisted primarily due to being first and having an established user base. Any technologically superior currency needs to syphon away some of that user base from earlier currencies before it can potentially supplant that currency.

For me personally potentially the best technological currency on the market is EOS. We shall see if that bears fruit.

Yet for the moment most of my funds are in Ethereum and that ended up being a good decision in terms of this recent decline.

You are lucky guy @dwinblood you made a timely decision. It's always better to choose a less evil. All the best for your future crypto business. Thanks for sharing your idea

It was luck, on that you are correct.

People should focus more and invest more in Ethereum, because bitcoin's prices goes down every day.

where did the money come from which you invested in Ethereum?
tell me about this "Loss" again.

Well. True. I didn't REALLY lose anything. :)

My potential currency declined for a period. I expect it to be short term. :)

EDIT: Other than it DID come from my Time, much like my paycheck.

'much like your paycheck'..but WAS it your paycheck?
what would you have been doing otherwise?
what was your percentage gain...given how much $$ you actually invested and what your accounts show

My gain was huge actually a division by zero error if I was investing actual $$.

As to what I would be doing otherwise? I have tons of stuff to do... actually more than I have time for. :)

division by zero.
that would be an infinite return on investment?

Well... if I paid nothing... in $$$$ then you get balance / investment.

Investment = $0 so you get division by zero. :)

yup...infinite ROI.
hard to beat THAT.

Well, I think it is good to have some bitcoin... for a stupid reason.
So you don't feel like you are missing out.

It will go to $40,000 then to $100,000, then to a $1,000,000

But, it will not be the biggest gainer, nor the best when it comes to an actual crypto to use.

Ethereum has some very positive use cases. Number one is that it is the ico gateway of choice. So, if you already have the ethereum, making moves on icos or on small caps is easy. (EOS may take a huge chunk of this)

I am glad you feel you made a good choice and avoided part of the down. However, I feel that soon bitcoin is going to make an explosive move upwards. Which will pull everything else along too.

I'll keep an eye on bitcoin. I'm fine if I invest and miss a bit of the ramp. :) I expect it to go up soon too, but I don't expect it to maintain it's position in the long run.

Truly it is true dear brother @dwinblood
I wish the calm or the demise of the storm that is now happening to digital currencies. It is really a great loss for many. But those who want to invest in it are these days.
See that day may come and digital currencies dominate the financial power
Thank you, I wish you good luck

Ethereum will take the lead soon! Hail the new King!!!! 👑👑👑

I am definitely considering putting most of my money into Ethereum. I can see it at 3.000$ or more by the end of the year.

In my opinion ethereum will be equivalent to Bitcoin sooner.

Intelligent decision. I still have enough in Bitcoin and I do not plan to sell it now, but from my perception one should only buy in those cryptocurrencies in which you have hope, I have used this time to buy some options like SmartCash or Cardano that I see good in the long term, due that with the market going down there is not much to do, but I also think that the BTC can still have a couple of good rises, so I leave a substantial part in it.

After all, it is a matter of seeing that it produces more profits, because certainly in this market virtually any cryptocurrency has so far produced profits for people, at least for those who are patient.

I own some Cardano myself I believe around 800. I don't remember if SmartCash is one I own or not. :)

I personally trust that both are undervalued and have a long way to go, they are good bets to diversify the portfolio.
