ECO Coin, crypto coin covered by trees

in cryptocurrency •  6 years ago

Ecological value is not well represented in our current economy. If you cut a tree and sell the wood, you earn money. When you plant a tree, you also create value, but you do not earn anything with it. Next Nature Network introduced the ECO Coin on April 20, the world's first crypto coin that rewards people for sustainable operations. Next Nature Network presented the ECO Coin to the public on Friday 20 April at 17.00 in the circular pavilion Circl in Amsterdam.

The ECO Coin is a cryptocurrency that is covered by trees and that ensures that sustainability is no longer a moral obligation, but an economic decision. The goal of the ECO Coin is to connect economy and ecology by making ecological value explicit in economic terms. The first ECOs was made available from 22 April, the International Earth Day.

How does the ECO Coin work?
Like other cryptocurrencies, the ECO Coin runs on blockchain technology. Unlike the Bitcoin - a fully digital speculative currency that people buy with the prospect of benefiting financially - the ECO Coin is supported by ecological assets. Every ECO is covered by one tree. This will create a new golden standard and link all credits directly to the number of trees in circulation.

ECO Coins can be received in three ways: by carrying out sustainable activities, by donating trees or by buying ECOs with a regular currency. The ECOs can be exchanged for ecological experiences, goods, and services. You can, for example, pay an organic beer with your ECO capital or receive a discount on your green energy bill. According to the Next Nature Network, this will lead to an alternative value system in which economics and ecology come into better balance.

Earning ECOs on Earth Day
On the 22nd of April, the International Day of Earth, the first ECOs was earned by telling on Twitter what sustainable action you have done before. Think of eating a vegetarian lunch, cycling to work instead of going by car or using a reusable cup for coffee. You can share your reaction via #ecocoin and receive the first ECO Coin in a digital wallet. For more information about ECO Coin's vision, visit www.ecocoin.com and download the whitepaper (from 20 April).
