Hey steemit guys,

all of the hacking going on in the cryptocurrency world right now and a huge influx of newcomers coming to the market I felt it was necessary.

some simple tips to stay safe online whilst they were investing in or storing your crypto team wallets one of the biggest downfalls of people involved in this space is not actually losing their money from trading but from losing their crypto or being hacked so whether you're new or a veteran that has gotten completely complacent recently let's jump straight to it with passwords.

so passwords most platforms and exchanges will ask for at least one lowercase one uppercase and one number character to put in your password this is fairly generic and something you would maybe do for a less important account like Facebook or Instagram then again even then you should ideally be taking stronger methods of security more seriously by taking passwords seriously I mean not just doing the absolute basics and using just one single word hackers out there either use something called a dictionary algorithm which actually just like a blockchain node works through hundreds of equations a second to crack your password if not they'll probably just identify it from your password being a word heavily associated with yourself try and make your passwords around 16 digits long with a combination of random letters meaning absolutely nothing random capital letters in between your words and even then throw in some exclamation marks question marks and at signs for good measure it sounds simple I know but this is often forgotten due to laziness and wanting to get set up faster if you want to be lazy and efficient then uses security locks online password generator site such as.

Next up is two-factor authentication

two-factor authentication is a second form of password basically a backup password and secondary measure of security once you have logged into your platform with the usual username and password you can create a final barrier of entry via two-factor authentication which is an automatically generated numerical code for the specific platform you are using this code will be timed depending on how you set it up it could last anywhere from several seconds to a minute once the time is up the code refreshes and changes to a new one and entering the old code that's expired or no longer work this is achievable through to mobile apps available on both iOS and Android.

the Google Authenticator app and the orpheum every crypto platform should offer the option of two-factor security once you have downloaded the app simply scan the QR code for the relevant platform and it will generate an ongoing numerical password for your login this is especially crucial in crypto to where somebody can easily have your password and username however the two-factor would stop them dead in their tracks as they would need your phone or device running the app to then breach it and gain full access.

Finally Private Keys

when you're holding kryptos in a wallet your auto-generated private key is the make or break between your wallet being compromised or not this is the single most important piece of information you keep secret at all costs once this is in the hands of potential threats and then it's already too late the usual method people choose is the simply stories in their phones notes folder or on their computer this is almost insane as you're just increasing the likelihood of being hacked if anything it would actually be much wiser to store this information on a piece of paper as an example this way you can copy and paste your key into a Word document and print out several copies to store in a safe location where you see fit you get the picture I'm trying to portray right engrave it tattoo it chisel it into your bedroom wall if you have to most of these platforms are not even regulated or as secure as we leave so our objectives as wise investors is to secure our Kryptos over the long term and sleep easy at night knowing a potential threat that's going to target someone much easier to hack than yourself .
