The Shift in Privacy is Here.

For years we have been giving up our privacy and letting everyone into our lives via social media. It is time to shift the focus back to privacy. The world does not need to know everything in our lives.

Some Keys to Privacy and Security Online.

  1. Do not share your location.
  2. Do not talk about the amounts of Crypto you own online.
  3. Do not talk about where you keep your Crypto online.
  4. Never use a public email for your accounts.
  5. Use Lastpass to store you passwords.
  6. Use different passwords for all of your logins.
  7. Use 2FA when available.
  8. Be careful when livestreaming. It is very easy to share information that you did not intend to share.
  9. I recommend using a separate phone for your 2FA.

Thanks for the proper advice @hilarski, this is what you need to pay attention to first!

Why privacy should be so important? :)
Agree on security, but privacy i think is not so important.. just my opinion for discuss.

Privacy is the first door into your life. Security is the second door. Secure the first and the second is easier to protect.

Yep this is also true. If someone don't know you, you can't be hacked! You're right.

What privacy is there when people share Everything from their day to day life in exchange for likes?
You cannot build a fair economy based on anonymity, it just cannot work. The blockchain is secure enough that if you have your seedwords offline it's basically unbreakable, and it shows us the way for a better tomorrow.
Privacy is important, yes, but which aspect?

Yes, I put 2FA on all exchanges. So more reliable.

simple but effective technique to avoid victimised of hacker, thanks a lot.

thanks for your important information to secure the privacy in online transaction.

Information about privacy and security information is very important and useful thanks to the new information
good job

Could not agree with you more @hilarski !! upvoted !

@hilarski - Oh my goodness, Sir this is very useful info for us.

Another way of guarding your privacy is to use monero together with I2P as an intermediate way to do your online transactions.

Thanks for the info sometimes trifle can cause a lot of problems for yourself.

@hilarski,
I do most of this :D Yeah I won't let hackers to enjoy what I have earned in last couple of years! Great work friend, very valuable stuff for most of crypto traders and holders!

Cheers~

Yes, privacy is more important than ever if you are in crypto!
Use a malware and anti-virus software, both on laptop/desktop and mobile phone!
Your password can be as strong as it gets, but if there is malware looking on your screen or sniffing your keyboard they get strong passwords too and your keys to your coins are in the wrong hands!
So, people please take security seriously!

Fantastic

Agreed. Privacy is set to become the top priority for crypto investors moving forward. I wrote the article below discussing the topic.

https://steemit.com/culture/@maven360/the-cultivation-of-convenience-musing-crypto-investing

Very good suggestions @hilarski.

Sadly privacy is something that is going away. We all know the agencies that are tracking us and selling our information. That said, it does not mean we have to make it easier for them. After all, we are all on a decentralized platform, at least in part, because we dont want to give the silos more power over us. Let us not toss that benefit away by posting what we have and where.

Thanks again.

That is the greatest concern of today, people should be educated about it properly.

I've always been very privacy focused that's why I can't stand this new kyc know your customer stuff....... it's really mind boggling that they want to connect cryptocurrency and the real world when what we want is to not connect it.

Thanks for the advises! Basic but really important

Great tips @hilarsky :) We all need to be careful;Just one simple mistake is enough to lose a large amount of crypto in one go.

Great post. I also think hardware wallets are a great investment (only $100 for a trezor on amazon). Worth it considering that one security mistake and you could lose everything.

I do not follow all the points set out by you. It's my fault, but I'm an amateur. Thanks to you and other authors on Steemit I'm learning not to repeat my mistakes)

Also helpful for security of your devices:

  • Use full disk encryption on your desktop/laptop. BitLocker is the native disk encryption or Windows and FileVault is the MacOS equivalent. This is especially important when traveling. I've witnessed two incidents this year in which airport travelers accidentally picked up the wrong laptop while going through security (most MacBooks look nearly identical).

  • Use encryption on your mobile device as well.

To save some headache down the road I also frequently create updated full system images with disk imaging software.

Why do you recommend "LastPass"? Is it superior to 1Password in your opinion? Thanks for sharing your advise on security. Many people don't pay enough attention to it and are frustrated when something happens. They also blame everybody else instead of themselves.
UPVOTE 💪🏻

"Use different passwords for all of your logins."
This happens so often...fansites being hacked and bam your screwed... I only use the same pass for sites I don't care if I lose the account. Otherwise they are different, even if slightly.

I treat crypto like I treat my "real" money.

If I'm doing well, have a thick wallet, I don't walk around talking about it, I separate my cash into different locations (like buying multiple stable coins or "real" currency), and I don't let anybody know where the cash is at.

Ya know how the guy behind one of the biggest dark net markets got caught? He started buying Lamborghinis at his old run down apartment, took lavish trips, and bragged about it. If you've got money, even if it's legitimate, stfu about it and lay low.

All in all, great post. Covered the basics really well.

That is great @hilarski.

Thanks a million for this information!

Sage advice

Nice summary. Security is definitely a growing field. All tech stuff will continue to have cybersecurity issues and threats/risks.

Thanks

Nice post sir . . . Some good idea . Thank you so much

Very True. Although, if you're on Steemit, you're giving up a certain level of privacy in order to prove to the community that you are a real person :)

Agreed, Privacy is key. I think Anon-Coins like CloakCoin will see massive gains in the future

I agree that privacy is really important. One thing I don't get on steemit is that you can look at anyone's wallet. I am new to steemit and crypto, so I don't know why this is available on the site. I don't regularly look at others' wallets on here, but I just think it is weird to have them available. I need to look into Lastpass. I have never heard of it. Thanks for the information!

That's the blockchain ethos for you. Everything is recorded and open.

I just made a post on this topic here... because I don't think most people are even aware of what capabilities the various governments and hackers have with their internet work unless they are using end to end encryption on everything they do and say. https://steemit.com/privacy/@somena/things-you-should-be-aware-of-when-posting-chatting-or-texting-anywhere-on-the-internet-you-have-no-privacy
