I'm a huge fan of torrents and I find it more and more difficult to find good torrents nowadays. With the spread of streaming services like Netflix and Spotify, young internet users that came along after the golden age of torrents have little incentive to use them. The average digital media user these days prefers not to keep a library of files, instead choosing to access them on cloud services instead. This is understandable. But now, with the advent of the blockchain, there may be a great reason for people to start using torrents again.
They can get paid for it. Alas, it is in Bitcoin Cash, but its a step in the right direction.
Joystream, a new bittorrent client that offers paid streaming and seeding, just released today. There are of course a few issues, but overall the UI is pretty slick and intuitive and the team is quite active on reddit solving problems. I look forward to seeing how it develops and being able to use it for more and more of my media consumption.
