With the advent of decentralised social media platforms like Steemit and Dtube, content creators are presented with an entirely different way to monetise their content that doesn't depend on 3rd party advertising like what has typically occurred with platforms like YouTube.
But this requires all of us to consider how to determine the monetary value of content that's posted on these new platforms. How much is content really worth? How do you figure this out?
That's what I'll be exploring in this video.

I think Steem should be thought of as a game more than a mechanism of deciding what each piece of content is worth.
Some of the reasons to upvote are they're a known author and you think you can get good curation rewards or they have SP and you hope maybe they'll vote you back or you just want to support them in general so you'd support any post.
And it's all rational and what you should expect people will do, and it won't correlate too perfectly with how "good" the piece of content was. So it just shouldn't be thought of as a way to gauge how good content is.
What's important is whether the rules and incentives in play generally encourage good behavior and what you want in a social media platform, and at least make it more advantageous to create good content rather than bad content.
Getting big bucks for a simple post is nothing new anyways. PewDiePie can put up a cat vid and make a bunch. But we recognize that it's within the context of the following he's built and that YouTube isn't necessarily gauging what each piece of content brings to the world.

great video @louisthomas ! definitely CONTENT IS KING, and yours is a quite high-quality one! In the other hand, the performance of any post is highly determined by your SP, reputation and voting power, which is also directly related to your purchasing power to acquire STEEM....so, the best content not always get the best results, there are more factors to take into account which makes the platform less democratic and fair than it should be in my view... Steemit created a super complex economy from scratch, so I gues it needs to improve constantly...following you for more than a year already man! greetings from Spain mate! :) Let me know if you ever visit Valencia, that would be a pleaseure to meet you in person my friend! ;)

Great video! It’s honestly hard to determine what a piece of content is worth, no matter if it’s youtube or Steemit. I will say this though, I feel that Steemit has a much better way of monetizing content. With YouTube, there is a lot of rigged situations where a piece of content gets favored towards YouTube and gets put on the trending page. On Steemit I feel that it’s equal opportunity. Also another thing on Steemit that I like is that there is no cpm on a content creator, the more Steem power you have is more control over the vote.

I really love Steem, however do feel it is impossible to get anywhere even with (What I believe to be) quality content. Struggling over here! ahaha

@purepinay takes 2 weeks to write, edit and retouch each blog post as far as she says. Honestly, you can tell. it's always super detailed, properly proof read, displayed perfectly. In return she has thousands of awesome followers and earns atleast 400$ per post. Time and effort obviously pay off for her. To say that will work for everybody not the case, but essentially it's real evidence that the lazy ones who only put 15- an hour into a post complaining about revenue dont understand what real bloggers do. I dont expect to make anything off of my blogs, im more of a curator. It shows real bloggers, who put real time into their posts, in fact are valuable and should be the ones who are rewarded and followed.

A great video. My concern is that the reputation value also plays a part in whether or not your content gets viewed. Also on many occasions whales view and comment and like your content or comment but do not upvote. Surely this platform is a two way street.....we need to see more evidence of this. Peace and Love.

When evaluating how good content is I subscribe to the view that people will naturally gravitate towards good content of their own accord. While I think Steemit is a great platform I think that it is still a work in progress and as a new user, I don't understand why whales have such disproportionate influence in terms of voting .
Another gripe I have is that while it is considered bad etiquette to upvote your own comments an entire ecosystem has grown up around paying bots to upvote your posts. I really don't understand the logic concerning this particular contradiction so if someone could enlighten me I would be really interested to hear the defence of voting bots.

the "value of the content is subjective".....and similar to the art world. i liked that comparison.

I think, it should be possible to sorting own content on our blogs and steemit should end the 7day period to monetize the articles. So if someone find your "old" article he/she should be able to donate something. Without groups, voting-bots or the favor of "whales" there is no chance to get paid accurate for your own effort on steemit. And what I will do now, is to stop puzzle about, why this content is worth more than another with obvious a better quality and stop comparing.

Hi! I always watch your content on YouTube! What’s the best way to grow my steemit account being a minnow? I’m not sure if the way this platform is setup, by giving whales more power, will actually have a positive effect on the platform. What do you think?

Agree with you. Primary Purpose of this platform is to promote quality content but most of the steemians (new ones) are ruining this and just focusing on earning, no matter how.
During start, I spent time in writing useful and contributory content for adding value in this platform but that didnt even get views. With passing time, I have realized that building a good reputation, having good SP and voting value and few other tactics are must to promote your content for enhancing its reach to maximum users. Only posting is not enough. Well, that's my opinion.
Thanks for the great post buddy.
