Similar to Bitcoin, Vertcoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that comes with additional features such as ASIC Proof-of-Work function and Stealth Address technology. It was released on January 8, 2014, as a potential Bitcoin successor. However, as opposed to Bitcoin, whose miners use powerful computers and work together in teams to monopolize the cryptocurrency market, Vertcoin believes everyone with a computer should be able to mine for it and join their network.
Payments are made to addresses based on digital signatures, and are strings of no less than 33 numbers and letters always beginning with the letter V. The great thing about cryptocurrencies, including Vertcoin, is that users can merge mine with other cryptocurrencies. This means that a miner can mine for multiple blockchains at the same time. With Vertcoin, users have this option as well and can merge mine with at least one cryptocurrency, one example being MobileCash.
Overall, Vertcoin is an ASIC resistant cryptocurrency more accessible to the wider audience and gives users access to more features instead of just paying for overpriced ASIC hardware. It is also a coin that frequently adds major updates, and its devs are also testing the lightning network. This goes to show that it's not a stagnant cryptocurrency and it will continue to adjust in order to attract more potential miners.

VertCoin sounds pretty nifty. I like that they have a focus on ASIC resistance, being an average Joe mining on a GTX 960 myself. :) Thanks for the quick synopsis.
