Russia to Regulate Cryptocurrencies - Your thoughts?

Russia has gone from seeing cryptocurrency as illegal to seeing the popularity of it and wanting to regulate it. "Buying of crypto-currencies should be similar to buying securities." More information included in the article.

What are your thoughts on this announcement? As more governments decide to step in and "regulate"...the question that's unclear in my mind...especially when you hear them talk about their own crypto block-chain and currency...would that make the coins we now buy and sell worthless over time?
