All Aboard the SCRYPTO Bandwagon! See What It's About!

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

I've seen a few posts on this topic around Steemit which is how I found out about it. Thanks @condra and @paulag!

What was obvious in my first 5 minutes on the platform was that it was way easier to network over there. I found Steemians that I wouldn't have found otherwise. This is probably my own shortcoming coupled with Steemits. You have to do a bit of wading to network...especially if you find Discord a difficult place to do so.

That being said, I totally see SCRYPTO as a companion to Steemit rather than a direct competitor.

What the Heck is SCRYPTO?

Well, it's a new social platform paying in crypto. Sounds familiar, right?

Well, it's nothing like Steemit.

First off, you start off with ZERO. ZILCH. You get a shiny (and very RED) Profile, a Dashboard, and some other neat stuff, but no coin.

TIP: If you want your username to be your display name, put it in the First Name field. Leave the Last Name blank.

However, from what I've seen in all of the 10 seconds I've been onboard, it's fairly easy to earn one or more of the THREE cryptocurrencies available on SCRYPTO.

The Cryptocurrencies

Well, there's 3 of them, and I'm not sure I've heard of any of them.

  1. DigitalPrice
  2. Evotion
  3. Motocoin

Needless to say, I'm not THAT smart about Bitcoin or even Steemit, so this will take a bit of research on my part.

DigitalPrice

Their website is snazzy and will offer you a great overview on what this experimental digital currency is all about. Again, I'm not very technical with my crypto knowledge, I'm only a couple months in.

The things that stuck out to me:

  • No premine
  • They present a few ways to get free coins
  • It's currently limited to 2 exchanges I've never heard of: Bleutrade and Nova Exchange
  • It can be converted to Bitcoin (cha-ching), as well as other well-known coins
  • It appears to have a strong development team and be well-funded

Evotion

Um, gamble much? Their website <<< is a gaudy crapfest of poker chips, cards, and roulette wheels. This coin is worth more than DP ^ in coinmarketcap, but I find their website less than professional. I couldn't find much info on this coin for all the hoopla.

Unimpressed, but if it converts to Bitcoin, I don't care. At least they HAVE a website which is more than I can say for...

Motocoin

Don't click their website link on coinmarketcap unless you want to open some fresh hell upon your computer. Apparently MOTO doesn't have a website? So, I have no info on this coin. Let me know if you find some. Drop a link in the comments. I'll keep looking.

It's NOT currently traded on Bittrex.

SCRYPTO

I know I said there were 3 cryptocurrencies, but apparently SCRYPTO itself is an ICO. You can invest only with Ethereum from a wallet, not an exchange - https://scrypto.io/ico

Also, apparently, SCRYPTO and the social network SCRYPTO are a side hustle of Digital Price. Just FYI. Here's the White Paper.

They Have Communities!

Instead of this "sort of a loose community" stuff we have going on here at Steemit with tags, SCRYPTO has actual communities that you can set up, follow, and join! Here's the Steemit Users one created by @condra, I think it was - https://scrypto.io/s/steemit/

I created a couple myself, but they're not ready for presentation.

If you love being on the ground floor, and you missed that with Steemit like I did, you can do that here.

It Won't Replace Steemit

The reasons are numerous. While Steemit lacks some key features that I long for, I know I'm not alone. These are most likely in the works. I should do some reading about that.

Anyway, let me just list some reasons why SCRYPTO makes a great Steemit companion, but not-so-great replacement:

  • Steemit has better coins, and I would argue, a better reward system
  • Steemit is better established
  • Steemit has blogs; SCRYPTO is more like a menage trois between Facebook, Twitter, and Steemit (LOL)
  • SCRYPTO is so....RED! It hurts mah eyes!
  • You can promote your Steemit content there

What I Like

I love that SCRYPTO is a great place for status messages. As a long time Facebook and Twitter user, the Status is like my diary. I need it...I just don't care for it to be on Facebook or Twitter anymore.

It has messaging!

It has a more reciprocal following model like Twitter. While there are definitely flaws, it's so...familiar.

It's simple and clean. It's got features, but they're not all clunky and everywhere. Everything has it's place.

I really love that it's NOT a replacement for Steemit as I fell in love with Steemit right away and have quite a bit invested here.

It seems like a really good place to promote Steemit content!

It also seems like a good place to connect with other Steemians both on SCRYPTO as well as here on Steemit.

What I Don't Like

It's very...RED. I hate all the red in case you can't tell. It's hard on the eyes!

That's pretty much it so far. I've only just created my account today, so time will tell.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops. Of course, this is also true for Steemit.

Have you created your cover image yet!?! I did a quickie this morning.

So, Are You Gonna Jump in Line?

Are you going to create an account on SCRYPTO?

If you do, throw a link in the comments. I'd love to connect!

Sort Order:

I found the site yesterday, but haven't made an account there yet. There wasn't much info on the front page, and I couldn't quite figure out what was going on there. I also didn't have time to research it in-depth like you did. I appreciate your analysis of Scrypto. I'm going to check it out again, and maybe make an account this time. :)

Cool, @stephmckenzie. It has space for a crazy amount of personal information, but I left most of it blank. I set up a couple communities and posted a couple sentences. I think I could get into it. I really like that it is a lot different from Steemit and kind of compliments it in my humble opinion.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. =)

Thank you for this sound description :) Would be great to get an update in a few weeks to have an additional insider insight!

Sounds like a plan. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I would agree, it is my no mwans a replacement for steemit. I am loving the platform so far, although the coins i am getting dont have a good track. All 3 look like they were purchased in bulk for this project

Yeah, I researched them a tiny bit today. I saw a post that they are going to add more coins soon and they play to add 100 different ones! The post I saw was in the SCRYPTO NEWS community. They seemed receptive of STEEM and SBD which would be amazing!

I never liked that website tbh... Coins never heard of, exchanges never heard of oh wait I heard about nova exchange of my friends funds are stuck there.

All in all I will stay away

Well, it's a matter of personal preference. They are adding more coins this week, and there's a lot of chatter about Steem and SBD. I'm not saying they will add them, but they are planning to add more than 100 coins to their platform, so I'm happy to be in on the ground floor.

Thanks for the rundown. I'm checking it out.👌

Cool. Thanks for your comment. =)
