The hype over a Social Media platform being built on top of the EOS blockchain by @dan is starting to build and I want to get my thoughts out about it in a post. I'm all for it. I think the more new and innovative platforms we have the better. What I don't what to see is a Steemit clone, not that I think it will be, but I want to get out my ideas on what I think you should look at including to make it a very different ecosystem than the one that exists here.

So here's my starting from scratch list of things I think would help make the EOS Social Media Platform different from Steemit and potentially avoid the problems Steemit is having:
One Person/One Account. Accomplished through ID and Selfie verification.
No bots. Steemit is the bot-o-rama universe. Make the EOS platform bot free.
Have a two-part value to vote power. One half of the vote power based on stake and one half based on being a person. Sort of like every US state gets two senators but gets house representation based on population
no self voting
diminishing vote value if to high of a percentage of your votes go to the same person/group of people in a given length of time

Let's start with the one person/one account. This will stop the multiple account abuse used for self voting, harassing other users, and other less than savory activities. It won't even be hard to implement. I recently signed up for the Monaco debit/Visa card and there system worked flawlessly. It can go horribly wrong as well though. Coinbase currently has their system in shambles.
I see banning bots as a needed step. Right now on Steemit, instead of people going out and reading articles then up voting them they are selling their votes through up voting services. This has dramatically lowered social interaction. I thought social interaction was the point to a social media platform?
Steemit has a retention problem. Many new users become dead accounts because of frustration with how little voice they have when they first sign up. The two part value system, or something similar, would insure that new users feel like they are part of the platform while still giving larger stake holders a larger say.
No self voting and diminishing vote value for over voting for the same people are suggestions for the same reason as banning bots. It's suppose to be a social network. This will discourage circular voting and encourage exploration and interaction.

If you happen to find this post and read it I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to do so @dan . I think having a social media platform built on top of EOS is an exciting idea. I've thrown out these suggestions as ideas to help with the brainstorming. I think there's plenty of room for both Steemit and a new platform on EOS. I just would like to see that new platform different from Steemit and I think from what I read so far you share that thought.
I agree that a clone of steemit would not be the way forward. I will take measures to address most of the concerns you raised.

@dan, ive being amazed not just by your tech, but by the way you see the world... hollisticlly, you have spotted the top players, and understand how they manipulate the game throu the financial system, and i believe as i try (with my uneducated tech mind) to understand EOS, i see you are trying to build a bulletproof community from these financial actors, focusing on people, rewarding effort... you also saw the problem with PoW in costs of nature, and you built a blockchain tech thats scalable without f***** the world and our natural resources... ill allways follow you for that.... and i would leave everything to go and work with you...
Now, i just do what i can, trying to give value with my effort to the spanish community on STEEMIT...
I know you migth not even read this, but... im a little upset to see how things turned to be with STEEMIT with you guys... But.. is it in the plans for EOS to compete agaisnt your own platform, STEEMIT? to create somethig better so people leave this "poor governance"? or, you still want this proyect to succeed?
I just needed to ask, cheers man!
D.

Wow.. You've really hit the nail on the head.... This is really a problem, this is especially with those that just flag someone's comment without reasons. Thanks a lot @randystiefer

I would love to see steemit get some good competition !
I think there are some solutions that do not happen because the whales do not want to loose there cash cow. Giving people other options might speed up there thought process,on how to help the platform instead of there profits... ;-)
I would love to be a beta tester. let me know when I can try it out!

Very good post. I agree with your points about what Steemit lacks and how EOS can be different when it comes to implementing a social media platform.
Let's see now what points are followed through with, since they weren't exactly specified.
As it is, competition is good, and it might make Steemit better for it. If it's actually meant to be more than just an ATM machine for some, maybe the hard decisions won't be so hard anymore.

Great post @randystiefer with splendid good suggestions for the next 'successful' Social Media Platform. Whatevah it can be in the future and from wherevah it comes from. :)
So, to expand farther the awareness about this subject within our community & extend even further the reach of your message in your "Open Letter To @Dan" and everyone else out there in the Information Superhighway. I would like to attract your, (everyone), attention cordially inviting everyone to read also this complementary post from my good friend @tarazkp.
Cheers!! :)

Some of the things you cite are actually on a radioactive decay cycle as we speak, not so much you but others with complaints like yours are not looking and watching. Take for example the So Called "Broken SBD PEG" which is not "broken" so much as it is in PROMO MODE and a higher SBD rewards STEEMERS quite well, early on, but at a Decaying Rate. As more SBD is generated by the blockchain and/or reward pool, the prices come DOWN and a "peg" will be reestablished. Some say Broken, I say
BRILLIANT!
I'm glad someone posted this out of place in discord, now I can go look and maybe get in on the ground floor, like I wished I'd have done HERE ;)
PS: Bot Activity and anything else you cite as "problems" here can be rectified in subsequent Hard Forks... I was here for HF19 and I knew what a hardfork meant... I see you joined about 4 months after I did, you might not have been here or been aware, or even know what it means but a Hard Fork can be a total GAME CHANGER ;)
