2017 has been the year of cryptocurrencies - they are finally becoming more and more accepted by the masses.
Now, the Austrian Post has just announced that they will offer different cryptocurrencies for sale their locations!
They have teamed up with Austrian platform BitPanda to offer direct exchanges between Euro and cryptocurrencies. Besides Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Dash will also be supported.
The service will be provided in all 1,800 Austrian locations.
How does it work ?
The post office issues the user a code, which he then redeems on the BitPanda platform using the "Bitpanda To Go" feature.
Then, they get credited the cryptocurrencies they bought in their BitPanda online wallet.
Every user can choose between a 50€, 100€ and 500€ voucher for cryptocurrencies.
All they need for the purchase is an account and a valid E-Mail address.
And that's it - the process is quick and convenient!
The Austrian Post is a huge company which now aims to be one of the largest Bitcoin platforms.
With their 300,000 users, they hope to increase their transaction volume to 200 million Euros - which might sound a lot, but could actually be doable.
This new initiative also offers a great deal for offline purchases: it offers the coins for the same price as online!
This is not very common yet - most places where you can buy Bitcoin in Person charge up to 10% fees.
"Among other things, the main goal of bitpanda was to offer fair prices for the “offline” purchase of Bitcoins. With the ‘Österreichische Post AG’ as a partner, it allows them to offer the digital assets at cost. This means, that the fee structure by “offline” purchases via cash is finally aligned with the inexpensive “online” conditions. Thus, the currencies manage to step further away from their somewhat dubious image and towards a popular and accepted investment and payment method."-BitPanda
Initiatives like these are what helps cryptocurrencies get mass-adapted!

I can't wait until banks also move in this direction. Currently bank business denys cryptocurrencies based on intransparency (especially for not knowing the real persons behind the accounts) and the fact that they see it as a competitor to their usual business model. Once this changes, the effect would be much more tremendous.

I truly hope this never happens. Cryptocurrencies should avoid banking systems. I would love seeing some healthy competition in this area. I don´t want to sound like the fanatic but banks, bankers&co. have way too much power over the rest of the world, so.... Idle wishes, I know.

I really look forward for other country in the world to take example of Australia and do the same. Not only Bitcoins ATM. Here in Thailand it is quite expensive to purchase bitcoins from the local website and we cannot use outside website to buy the bitcoins. thanks @sirwinchester

Good news for Austrians! I don't expect seeing any similar innovation coming anytime soon to our post offices here in Canada, because unlike the one you mention in Austria, ours here are monopolistically owned by the State.
