Intro

The most frustrating part about being a programmer is the keen awareness of your own ignorance. Despite having a full time job in the field of web development I struggle with a fierce case of impostor syndrome. Every new bit knowledge gained feels like I've taken a sip of saltwater in the middle of the desert.

My addiction to knowledge nevertheless continues. Over the past two years I've followed quite closely the turbulence of the cryptocurrency universe. I am not a prophet but I feel a deep sense of power and possibility every time I glance at the charts and read the latest whitepaper.

Coders like us have the unique opportunity to blend two fields, economics and software. I am enthralled by the potential to not only be involved in world-shaping projects but to have it directly impact people's financial well-being. We are lucky to have this opportunity.

Currently I am an instructor at a wonderful coding school called VSchool, located in downtown Salt Lake City, UT, USA. We share the same office space as Storj, a company most crypto-geeks have heard of. My job consists of teaching newcomers to the field of web development, using technologies such as ReactJS, MongoDB, and NodeJS. It's amazing. In my spare time, however, I study and invest in several cryptocurrencies.

My background is in philosophy, not computer science, but my goal is to become an expert in the field of cryptography and fintech. Why not make a bit of extra on the side too?

The purpose of this blog is simply to detail my journey through this knowledge adventure.

Where I am now

Portfolio

At the time of this writing I hold a portfolio of 7 coins:

  • Ripple(XRP)
  • Stellar (XLM)
  • Ethereum (ETH)
  • Lisk (LSK)
  • Cardano (ADA)
  • EOS
  • IOTA

Goal

I've got approximately a 3 year outlook with a B&H strategy. In later posts I'll go into the details of why I chose these coins and their distribution.

Tech

I am much more intrigued by the use cases of crypto than merely making $$. This is why I plan on really analyzing the tech behind the scenes. I am following all of these coins closely and will post my analyses periodically as my research and schedule allows it. I'm especially excited to start building my own DAPPS as I learn more about platforms such as EOS, LISK, and IOTA.

Short Term

I currently am working through the Introduction to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies course through Coursera. The course is in Java which I'm not familiar with, so I may end up using NodeJS to complete the assignments. I will post all my coding progress to GitHub.

Conclusion

I'm mostly doing this blog for my own benefit as a way to focus and reflect on my life ambitions. I don't expect many followers or interaction but please feel free to follow me on Twitter and Reddit. Any feedback, advice, or knowledge is appreciated!
