Giving is not just about making a donation. It's about making a difference. - Kathy Calvin

I couldn't agree more, Kathy.

Now there are a lot of people who strongly believe that 'cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology will change the world.' But what does changing the world even mean?

Here's one possible answer to that question!

@surfermarly in the middle of her first charity project: @dreamsoftheocean

It's all about trust!

To me one of the most groundbreaking achievements of cryptocurrencies is their ability to make financial affairs more transparent.

And transparency is the main driver of trust.

If charity organizations all over the world had to face one general challenge, then it would be credibility. The big players have always to deal with rumors about their financial management. Since they seldomly open their books for the public, nobody actually knows how much of the donations are really used for the cause, and how much is somehow 'lost' for administration or other expenses.

Cryptocurrencies are the perfect tool to bring trustworthiness back to charity organizations.

This trend has just arrived on steemit!

@heiditravels published an article with the headline 'Blockchain Tech is Bringing Honesty Back to Charities' two weeks ago and informed about organizations that are using the technology to back their social activities.

Also the new application @appics (firts Smart Media Token) underlined in their introduction post the importance of charity:

In cooperation with APPICS, foundations will have the unique opportunity to provide insight and built trust within their community, and in return, receive a reliable reputation score and funding.

The whole world of cryptocurrencies is founded on the believe in trust. That may become the future key driver in charity's success.

Trust and confidence are rarely given, they need to be earned.

It's through mutual agreement on value how these trustworthy bonds are established.

Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are a gift for charity organizations. Besides the newly acquired transparency, the peer-to-peer connections will make financial transactions much more efficient.

Sometimes the help is needed immediately, so a money transfer that is done in seconds may be even able to safe lives in the end.

As a smart side effect, cryptocurrencies will also benefit from these new trends. Social commitment will help the crypto world to improve their image and go against bad publicity about illegal income, black money, etc.

It's a win win.

@surfermarly promoting steemit.com during her last charity event for @dreamsoftheocean

Every time charity is asssociated with steemit.com it will contribute to the recognition of the brand, to the community reputation and the value of the currency Steem.

That's why I believe that charity will play an important role in the future of Steem.

There are a lot of social initiatives on this platform already. I'm pretty sure that this is just the beginning. In the future we may even have a 'charity community' where all these wonderful projects and activities are bundled.

The #charity section on steemit is full of dedicated people who are using this network both for communication and fund-raising: https://steemit.com/trending/charity

Now it's on us to select the pearls, help those who are backing their real social activities with Steem and ensure the growth of trustworthy #charity on steemit.

And I can promise you: it's much easier to start than it is to stop. Once you've looked into a smiling, grateful face, you need to see more of them.

Social commitment is addictive in the very best way possible.

So you wanna change the world through cryptocurrencies, steemians? Then let's do this.

As you have rightfully pointed out, cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technology have huge potential in the charity space as they can easily span borders and bring a lot of transparency

On top of this, innovative technology like the Steem blockchain allows us to support charities even without making direct donations and I'm sure what charities could earn from publishing about their work on this platform could actually be a way to make a difference and help cover some of their cost.

In a world where charities are often judged on overhead, if activity on the Steem blockchain can just cover a significant part of the overhead, this would allow charities to spend a much higher percentage of what they get in donations directly on the causes they were designed to deal with. While this sounds like something small, it's actually a very important perception metric and could allow a charity to raise much more in donations.

Thanks for the valuable adding, @rocking-dave!

You are absolutely right! It's even a completely new way of generating benefits that can be earned on top of standard donations.

Again, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment!

My pleasure!

I encourage this kind of project...
I give money to charity because I enjoy looking at the things I have helped support and thinking “I helped support that, it’s a little bigger (or a lot bigger) now because of me.”

I give money to charity because I enjoy thinking about the people who use the services and what they can do with their lives now.

I give money to charity because, thanks to past humanitarians, I am never going to catch polio. Or diptheria. Or smallpox. Or several other diseases. I have to pop open Wikipedia articles just to track all the diseases I’m not going to get thanks to the vaccinations I’ve had. Thank you, @surfermarly and many others.

Very good sharing

Very good sharing

great post and very nice topic @surfermarly..thanks for sharing.

Cryptocurrencies are the future and thank
goodness that we are part of it..good post

writing detail and nice to understand. I read it carefully. and I came to the conclusion that, perhaps krypto is the last thing that created technology to launch a social activity that exists in the world. this is very useful for mankind. really a very useful post. i like your post. i always follow you. by @boyasyie.

Blockchain will surely help the new projects like charities and donations to make more profitable and transparent. No centralized power is required here.

This is a great post! I'm really glad to see people out there doing good! Keep up the good work! And also keep surfing! Where is your home-break? I film surf here in Southern California, and it would be great to be able to make a short video on you in the waves sometime! Cheers!

Awesomeness!

It's really a win-win-win, with the 3rd "win" being that if charities and giving can be established this way, it offers a "legitimate use" for blockchains/alt coins that will take them out of the realm of "something esoteric and niche" and more into the mainstream. Which would ALSO be really good for everyone.

Indeed, let's change the world!
