Novice Crypto - Stratis - October 2017

Disclaimer: Novice Crytpo posts will be the resting place of my thoughts on various blockchain based technologies at a certain point in time. My thoughts should not dictate your actions or be perceived as investment advice but simply be a 'help' in to your own research and an opportunity for the community to comment and correct any misconceptions I may have.

Below are some of my musings on Stratis following days of research in the first few weeks of October 2017.

In short, following my research I have invested in STRAT with a view to hold my position until at least early 2018, but ideally for years to come. My conclusion was that Stratis has a clear vision, focused team and are actually delivering on their plan. Additionally, they expect the first release of their platform to be ready for customer adoption this year and plan to on-board customers at the beginning of 2018.

Assuming the rubber hits the road, they are well positioned from a technology and market timing perspective. Also, as they are based in the UK thy have different relationships and wont necessarily compete directly with the likes of Ripple.

Stratis - https://stratisplatform.com/

  •  Blockchain as a service / blockchain for dummies, focus not only on the tech but the consultancy to work with established businesses for mass adoption (focused on financial services)
  • Touted as 'A blockchain for the C# community, it offers C# and .Net libraries for developers - easier than pitching Ethereum's proprietary 'solidity' language Customers can have their own private blockchain / sidechain - This almost sounds like Blockchain virtualisation...
  • The main blockchain provides security, scalability and stable infrastructure - and in the future some level of privacy (ie. Monero was reference from CEO)
  • Based on a customised version of Bitcoin' code with changes made to make it 'more scalable and flexible'
  • Stratis is a complete port of Bitcoin's blockchain into C# (BTC was written in C++)
  • Available on Microsoft Azure as a templated VM - note: they are not the only one
  • 'cloud stratis will be built on Azure'
  • $17m of funding in Mid 2017, no anticipated cash flow issues to their execution plan
  • No customers on the platform yet though appear to have allot of interest, anticipate first adopters (and associated press releases) in Q1 2018
  • Proof of Stake
  • Have a focus on being the 'blockchain teacher' to the next generation. This is a proven strategy (think Microsoft and Cisco) and was no doubt inspired by their love of Microsoft's training program/s...
  • A very Microsoft friendly team (previously certified Microsoft trainers and BizTalk certified developers)
  • All service payments (ie. using the infrastructure) will be in stratis credits
  • 250000 stratis is required to operate a master node (due to 'tumblebit' - a trust-less blockchain) - this is currently a technical requirement to keep the master nodes ~ or < 20 nodes. Stratis plan to have tiers for nodes to remove this requirement / reduce it going forward. Earnings for node operators will be paid in Bitcoin (BTC, that's right, not a typo)
  • Stratus master node's will be downloadable to the public before the end of 2017
  • Planning to onboard customers in Q1 2018
  • As of Q4 2017 based in a WeWork office in London
  • Expect to be cash flow positive on 2018 - have funding currently to support the next 4 years vision (including BTC and STRAT holdings)
  • Will implement tiered subscriptions for transaction fees, will reduce transaction fees in the future to remain competitive
  • Will allow for on-premisis solutions for financial institutions via sidechains
  • Their young, first time CEO seems well spoken and intelligent but comes off as green in 2016 Q&A's. Notably he showed huge improvement in his most recent Q&A in which he also sighted the support and mentoring he and the team are getting from key advisers and supporters
