Cyber Criminals Are Hijacking Computers for Cryptocurrency Mining

That is ridiculous in my opinion, since it takes at least 10 Terahash to produce about $10 of bitcoin per day. It would be easier to simply buy a single Antminer S7 and mine the freakin coins. That actually could be profitable too, if you are smart enough to use solar panels!

Well, considering that simply hijacking someone else's electricity bill is free, simpler isn't necessarily more profitable.

In fact, hackers aren't just using people's computers, they are using the IoT to mine cryptocurrency.

Your toaster could be working for someone else.

No, that is simply ignorant. My fairly powerful quad core phone can mine bitcoin at about 2 megahashes per second. That would require amout 5 million phones to equal 10 terahash. Now this was NOT the case a few years ago when the bitcoin mining difficulty wasn't insane like it is today.

It doesn't matter if you think it's ignorant. It is being done.
