Cryptokitties, which officially launched in on November 28th, has already become one of the biggest things in the crypto world. It is a sort of a virtual Beanie Babies, built on the Ethereum blockchain, in which you can breed, sire, sell, and buy virtual cats. The value of the cats are determined by their characteristics, which are determined by a complex algorithm that behaves similar to a genome.
How successful is it? It already accounts for over 11% of the traffic on the Ethereum network. That is insane.
Did I make an account? You better believe I did! You're talking to "Cat Touch This", a future Cryptokitties mogul.
Why did I make an account? Not because I'm partial to cats. Not because I was a fan of Pokemon or Beanie Babies back in the day. Heck, I'm not even that much of a fan of cryptocurrencies. Most of my content revolves around precious metals and holding your wealth. I made an account because Cryptokitties has the potential to be a great investment for early adopters. Having started only 4 days in, I have to be setting myself up for success, right? Maybe, maybe not. I'm only putting in a small amount of ETH in at this point. I think the whole platform was designed to be fun, and to introduce people to the blockchain and cryptocurrencies in a laid back manner. I'm not getting my hopes up. However, if the rest of the crypto world shows us anything, this game can grow much larger than anyone can imagine at this point. Obviously, the actual value of the cats is even more dubious than the Ethereum that it uses to run the platform. The very first cat on the blockchain (named Genesis) was recently sold for ETH that is equal to $117K. Is it in a bubble at this point? Probably. Can it blow up even more? Absolutely. Just sell at the right time.
