Summary: Do you find yourself in the best workplace suited to your personal preferences? If so, then good for you. But do you see yourself working in the same company in the next five to ten years? If you have not found an answer to this question, then you best start searching for these answers as it can help shape your career path in the long term.
Whether this is your first job or the longest one you’ve had in a long time, the employment landscape continues to evolve and may soon affect your decision to determine whether you are a fit for the job you are currently in.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, an average of three million Americans quit their jobs each month based on data from June to December last year.
The top three reasons are the lack of proper on-boarding processes for new hires, failure to set clear work expectations and leadership issues. This does not even include factors involving financial wellness programs for employees that deal with workplace financial wellness programs.
A recent study by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) revealed that on average, an employee spends between six to nine months of a worker’s salary to hire and train a new replacement.
A separate research conducted by the Center for American Progress also found that it costs an average of 16% of a worker’s hourly pay for unsalaried workers and up to 213% for a well-trained management position.
Does it match your skill set?
Having the right skill set for the job means greater chances of a worker being more passionate about the job he or she is working in. A worker having the proper skill set for the job could result in better productivity and enhanced efficiency, compared to one who is not properly suited for the skills required for the job.
Do you see yourself staying long in the business?
How have you seen yourself in your workplace? Does it allow you to explore your full potential or have you just been toiling day after day doing the same ole routines? Having the right work attitude in a workplace that lets you perform at your peak is a good indicator that you could stay long in the business or the company. A routine job that drags you to work day after day should be a sign to let you reconsider your options whether to seek greener pastures or decide to shake things a bit and stand out in the workplace.
Do you have a good working relationship with your superiors?
This is really important because having superiors as mentors can help shape your career path. Having a good working relationship with your superiors is a good indicator that you are headed for a brighter future. If you have the situation the other way around, then it’s time to reconsider your options.
