Yesterday, today, and tomorrow. My trilogy of blogs concludes with tomorrow.
Yesterday: the dawning of the information age and the adoption of social media. People could communicate quickly, and in real time. Governments across the world were scared of what could happen when information could be accessed in this way. The truth became manifest.
Today: crypto currency in various forms. Although taking a while for crypto to be accepted by mainstream society, these fears of change have now abated. Even Governments are now accepting crypto as a means of payment, especially for taxes.
Hmm, why do we always have to wait for tax acceptance?
So, what does tomorrow bring? Both social media and crypto have taken a few years from creation to mainstream adoption. For tomorrow, we need to look at what is happening right now.
Virtual reality has now emerged as perhaps the greatest business opportunity humanity has ever seen. Combining social media and crypto in one package, VR is going to be huge. A few traffic exchanges and other websites have already started to make use of this new technology, which originally looked destined to be just another gaming device.
For entrepreneurs, embrace virtual reality now; be the ones who'll be rich in 10 years time.
OK, I hear you. VR uses a ton of bandwidth and RAM and CPU and this and that, and other things. Yes, there are still issues to be resolved.
Servers will need to be redesigned to accommodate a thousandfold increase in activity. We'll need greater electricity capacity, leading to investment in more generating stations. There may even be a public outcry over the increased carbon footprints.
As business owners and consumers, what do we do? We are witnessing a repeating cycle of consumerism thanks to the resultant uptake of new technology.
In the '10s, today we have social media, smartphones, and other mobile devices. The '20s will be the crypto decade; we already have thousands of websites dedicated to crypto this and that. The '30s will probably see VR exploding faster than the smartphone and crypto eras combined.
Beyond, into the '40s and the '50s, visionaries are already talking about faster than light travel becoming a reality. Who knows what may become of that idea.
Set the alarm on your smartphone, go to bed with crypto, adjust your VR headset, contemplate the Alcubierre Metric, and drift off to a different reality...Sleep, darn I knew there was something I had to do tonight!
I Can See Clearly Now the Rain Has Gone...
