[Cult Watch] Future Research Finally Arrived

in cultwatch •  7 years ago

One part of the research for a future Cult Watch post finally arrived the other day (bought second hand off ebay of course, not giving any money to those vampires), so I'll be tucking into it this week. I won't name the group, but I'm sure you've figured out who it'll be already. I've been meaning to read this book for some time now, not for any advice or self-help, but out of a genuine curiosity. Let's see what all the fuss is about!

This won't be the topic of the next Cult Watch post, but it will be covered in time. If you've already read this book, or have some experience with Dianetics or it's spiritual successor, please let me know down in the comments. I'd love to hear what you have to say. As always, make sure to hit that Follow button to stay up to date on the latest Internet and Pop Culture updates, plus whatever else I feel like writing about! Until next time guys, take it easy!

P.S. If you're new here, you might want to check out my Ultimate Beginner's Guide To Steemit, which covers everything you need to know to get started making money and meeting new people on Steemit.

I actually have this book in my drawer, someone said I should read it. Never have been one for homework and it did not seem like there are dragons or magic in so I will be hard pressed to actually read the book.

I have been going through my feed and saw the cult watch tag , then was like oh shit did I miss one. Yip I missed part 1 (phew still have time for part 2 while it is fresh) . Could you tag me when you release a cult watch post? I will be subscribing to the series :)

I've been meaning to get around to it myself, I guess there's no better time than the present! Yeah, I don't think the aliens and spaceships shaped like commercial airliners made it into this book (that's in the sequels!)

Absolutely! Thank you so much for your kind words too, they really made my day. I'll make sure to tag you in all future posts. I wish Steemit had some kind of series subscription, who knows maybe one day.

Not a series subscription though but with gina I can do a word watch, I can have her notify me of a phrase such as the tag you use cult watch - and to make it more unique a person can have it be like a unique code, maybe cultwatch-jg-sr1 then when ever you post you add that to a post and the chances are highly unlikely the bot will pick up posts that are unrelated :) Like an ISBN number haha

I had no idea Ginabot could do that, I'm gonna have to look into this feature. I'm going to have a play around this week with it and I'll let you know what I end up using for a code. Do you know if the square brackets are accepted by Ginabot? For now at least setting up a watch for [Cult Watch] might work?

Thanks for letting me know about that, I've been using Ginabot for a few weeks now (it's so useful!) but I've been meaning to have a deeper look in the settings. I've only just set up SteemAuto, I'm a little behind on all this stuff!

I have added [Cult Watch] to my watch list :) should not be a problem as it gets searched as text and not changed to characters. Will know with the next release. Thing is to just have a unique pattern, avoiding picking up other posts that might contain the word

I'm hoping the next one won't take quite as long to write as this did, it's a group I've been meaning to look into for some time, and I was quite surprised by what I found.

Thank you again! :)

The nature of steem is open, I don't see you putting it behind a pay wall without hosting it yourself. What could work is a series subscription, as I mentioned with using gina to word watch, but dedicated to grouping peoples "seriescodes" so you can easily browse entire series. if you wish you can then publish the series either for yourself as an ebook or the author could publish the series. The nature of steem I would not mind being able to just checkbox a whole bunch of articles and then have those published as an ebook, proceeds going fairly to all authors. Like watpadd but a little more utility. What do you think?

I really like that idea, it wouldn't work for a large portion of the content here, and a large portion of my own content, but certain tags and subjects that would be such an amazing idea. Fiction in particular, stories and poetry etc., would work so well with that. I've just had a quick look, and Amazon offer a Print-in-demand service, I wonder if you could even get them actually published in a physical format too?

I've read other users bring up the issue of content that's over 7 days old doesn't really get noticed anymore, once payout has been received it's like the posts are just abandoned with no real way to search for them in the Steemit interface, other than scrolling through a users posts.

I was thinking a series subscription more like a RSS-feed, I don't agree with paywalls, basically exactly what you've described with series codes. To be honest, the larger platforms like YouTube haven't even quite perfected that feature yet either, but with Ginabot I think all the functionality is probably already there to use.

Have you tried https://steemlookup.com/ to find content? Rss-feed , mmm very similar to steemit feed , as it comes it shows, but maybe if people use the tags or codes corectly then you can click a button and have your feed grouped into series and other . haha

I wonder what the volcano symbolism is all about

I think I know the answer to that, but I could be wrong. I think it's related to the CoS creation story.
