Curie Author Showcase (October 4th, 2018)

in curation •  6 years ago

  • In the spirit of Curie's mission to promote undiscovered but exceptional content, we wish to use this twice weekly section to provide an author showcase for some of the outstanding authors who received Curie upvotes in past week. Curie curators and reviewers nominate authors for inclusion in this showcase and author approval is sought and attained.

  • For those new to Curie, please follow @curie, and join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/jQtWbfj

  • Follow @curie's votes to support the authors. Please consider following our trail and voting for curated authors. If you are a SteemAuto user, @curie is an available trail to follow.

  • Vote for the @curie witness to support Curie operations (all witness payouts are used to fund Curie operations).

  • If you would like to delegate to Curie you can do so by clicking on the following links:
    50 SP, 100SP, 250SP, 500SP, 1000SP, 5000SP.
Be sure to leave at least 50SP undelegated on your account.

It is time to get the Curie Author Showcases started back up. We do apologize for not posting the last couple due to the curation stoppage connected to HF20. Everything is now back to normal, and all Curie operations are underway once again.

If you haven't already, be sure to go check out the details for the Curie Comments Contest. We are giving away 91 Steem every week just for leaving good thoughtful comments on all of the Curie upvoted posts. You can find the results to the last contest and all of the rules here - Curie Comments Contest Results

Time Lapse | Marine v Worm

Most of the time I prefer to choose posts for the Author Showcase from a wide range of categories. However, sometimes there are just too many great posts from one topic to leave them out. That's when we have a Showcase that features three art related posts out of the five chosen, like today's post.

We start off with the first of the three art posts. This one is a commissioned piece by artist @livibee. It takes a terran marine from the StarCraft game universe and pits him in a battle with a Sandworm from the Dune universe. A rather creative idea requested by what I am sure is a huge fan of both.

@livibee brings the idea to life in this time lapse video taking us through the entire painting process. My favorite part was watching the Sandworm take shape with the many different shadings and layers.

Go watch the full time lapse video and let @livibee know who you think won the battle.

BWA Avon epic event plus a Garden Update

Next up we follow @alfie-hart to the UK for another great bit of reporting and competing on the Windsurfing competition circuit. It always amazes me how he can not only film a good portion of the competition, and do some reporting on them, while also competing in them. After I pointed that out in my comment on the post he shared the following -

I originally imagined I would post to Steemit primarily about the vegetable garden and I will continue to do so . . . however my freelance film work within the Windsurfing world took off more than expected this year with Windsurfing.TV and I found that little stories about the making of some of the films and events have made interesting reading/watching.

As far as competing at British events - whilst filming is tricky and this post kinda sums up the challenges faced. In fact this particular day I struggled to feed myself properly and had my lunch at 4pm!! having started a 7am!! I'm super lucky to have work in something I'm passionate about.

Rainy Road / Watercolor painting + Video

Our next art post comes to us from one of the most talented artists I have seen here on the blockchain, @shibasaki. He always shares such detailed posts with all the steps in the process and usually a great video as well. He is also a great teacher which you can see for yourself when scanning through his blog page. Recently he talked about how some of his students get discouraged because they try to imitate his work rather than learn the processes and make their own creations. It is easy to understand why they cannot reproduce his work with as good as it is.

He has had some recent health issues (which you can also read about on his blog page) It is great to see him back at work producing amazing art, whether it be a simple country house, or a rainy city street.

Go watch him at work bringing this rainy road to life.

I Love You - Short Film

Images property of @distantsignal

We now move onto a project that @distantsignal has been working on for a few months now, a short film titled, I Love You.

The premise of the film is simple - a woman is anxiously awaiting her boyfriend to say those three words for the first time. Her friend suggests she drops some subtle hints. Advice the woman takes, but apparently doesn't quite know the meaning of subtle, and of course the boyfriend can't take a hint. It leads them on a frantic and hilarious journey through their relationship - and all in under 7 minutes.

Go watch the short film, and check out @distantsignal's blog page where you will also find a behind the scenes video.

DROWNING [A comic where I try to explain how I feel]

Images property of @lovesoldier69

We finish up today's Author Showcase with a comic by @lovesoldier69 who not only takes us through a four day process of creating the comic, but through a multi-year process in their life that has brought them through some struggles and self-discovery to where they are today.

I always love seeing the process pictures behind the artwork, and @lovesoldier69 definitely gave us an in-depth look into the process. Sharing everything from very rough sketch right up to the final coloring of the comic.

It is a great little story that can help many on their journey. I love the final moral that I take away from the story - Sometimes things don't work out the way you planned. Instead of being miserable about that, why not enjoy where you end up?

Go check out the full process and read their story behind this great comic.

I like the Marine v Sandworm! Dune and Starcraft were large parts of my younger-hood... Dune is still a huge part of my life, as I'm always thristing for more of that universe. That was an awesome piece!

Nice to see fellow artists being showcased.

Truly beautiful drawings.

Just delegated 50 SP to Curie last night because of how much help they are to the newcomers. My 7th post back on my old page made $100 which was amazing. I used to auto-upvote with them, but this is just as good! Cheers guys! Love the water colors @shibasaki. Great work!
