Three posting strategies to maximize your return on investment (ROI) in time and energy:
(1) Post in categories that seem to pay the most per post (on average): “Pay/Post” (last column). “Marketing” seems to have the largest average payout: $335 per post. Of course, averages are misleading. Calculating mean payouts would be more useful, but the numbers are not easily accessible.
(2) Post in categories with the lowest number of uncommented posts (on average): “Post/Comm” (next-to-last column): the lowest numbers are probably better. Since most people don't leave comments anyway, lack of comments probably mean fewer eyeballs. “Betting” seems to have the largest number of uncommented posts (on average, only 1 in 24 posts receives a comment).
(3) Get to know people and let them know you (This is my preferred strategy: earning money is useful, but I don't think it's the main point). At first, spend as much time as possible browsing in individual categories. Figure out what's most popular / most needed and who are the outstanding performers. Make a sincere, concerted effort to provide value and interact with people in your chosen categories. Post interesting / useful texts or beautiful / imaginative pictures, and leave intelligent, useful, encouraging comments. Follow productive / stimulating people and slowly build up your own following: your earnings will slowly climb. Use strategy 2 to maximize your exposure.

@wentong-syhhae - I was very much looking forward to your posts on the tags that you mentioned before in our comment chat, so I am putting the #bisteemit tag on this comment and see if this is something that the likes of @paulag and @eastmael might be able to help with as well.
I do wonder if the result would be different in a completely different category (e.g. photography, art, writing, etc.) because of the nature of the people in those channels to be doing less 'marketing' and more content creation. Can you also explain your rationale in how the categories were grouped into A, B and C? This might give me an idea on how to do the same for some user research that I am looking into.

The language-related posts are hard to relate except in a geographic sense (very little sense of unity). Almost nobody seems to have used #polyglot or even #bilingual as tags (unless I missed some), but I'll go ahead and construct a guide.
I'm very disappointed in the reaction to this first post in the series. After almost 24 hours, only 14 people have even looked at this post, but then again 6 upvotes is pretty good (close to 50%).

I don't think the #curation tag gets that much traffic, but then again I don't really know who the right audience might be because you are doing something new here. I had similar issues with the #infographics tag because nobody really publishes anything in this area. But once you get your reputation and steem power up (or attract the attention of someone that is in that position) I would say that you would get a much better response. I would definitely publish it in #cn if you haven't done so already.

My title had a bilingual English/Spanish title, but no actual Spanish text (too busy at the time I posted). I have just added Spanish text to my post, but Steemit doesn't allow me to add #spanish (I already have five tags: no changes are allowed after 24 hours).

I suspect that the categories themselves are fluid. They represent whatever random users want them to stand for. Because this is a first attempt at organizing categories, some tags will inevitably be misgrouped.
As you point out (1 & 2),
(1) Some people are more into content creation
(2) Some people hope to use Steemit to market their existing content
(3) There are also people out to make a quick buck by either reposting other people's content without adding anything or (worse) passing it off as their own.
I hope these supercategories will be of use to the first two groups. The third group amount to internet roaches: as long as we frequently switch the lights on and do regular housekeeping, roaches tend to stay away.
Reasons for my grouping into A, B or C:
my judgement (based on decades spent in dusty libraries) of relatedness: just a rough guide.
A: finance, economy and money are somewhat abstract (of course, money has many different meanings, but I'm not trying to produce an intellectually rigorous analysis)
B: gold and silver are sometimes considered forms of investing / investment. Betting doesn't fit very well, but at a stretch some people consider it to be a form of "investment" (after all, isn't investing in the stock market a form of gambling?)
C: market, marketing, business and trading are all related.
My main purpose is to make newbies (and even some experienced users) aware of categories they might have overlooked: a mental map of Steemit space, if you will.
Based on the comments I receive, I hope to improve this series of posts every half year (or maybe more often). One thing I will definitely do is to add external connections. The “Mikes and Cameras” supercategory (currently in a draft stage) should also have a link to the “Entertainment” suoercategory, for example.
