Hey, how exactly does the payment system work around here?

Do we get rewards for upvoting or following or what?

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.
If you enjoyed what you read here, create your account today and start earning FREE STEEM!
Sort Order:

You get rewards for upvotes you receive on your posts. The more steem power the upvoter has, the bigger your reward. You also get rewards for upvoting other posts. The size of this reward depends on your steem power and how many others upvote the post after you and what the upvoters steem power is.

Payouts happens after a post is 7 days old. Given your steem power is low at the moment you won't earn much curating yet. As far as posts, the more followers and upvoters you gain, the more they will earn.

Also check out hive.blog. It works much the same as steem but depending on your interests, you may have more (or less) success there.

Okay, thanks. Also, how can I exchange Steem currency for USD?

There are a multitude of ways. The easiest and most direct is to find an exchange that supports steem. Binance is probably the most well known but whether you can use it or not depends on what country you are in. Here in the U.S. we can't use Binance.com but there is a Binance.us. I haven't tried it though.

I use a rather convoluted method because that's what works best for me. Right now, if I want to sell steem:

  1. i transfer my steem to hive-engine (hive-engine.com) but for this you also need an account on hive (which works just like steem). Once logged on to hive-engine you can select deposit and chose your currency type (in this case steem) and it will give you the address of where to send it. Send steem from your steem wallet to the address specified. It will show up as swap.steem in your account on hive-engine after a few minutes.

  2. hive engine is a decentralized market for cryptos. From there you can sell your swap.steem for a number of other currencies including swap.bitcoin, swap.eth, swap.litecoin, hive, etc. If your object is fiat, then buy your favorite well known crypto.

  3. Once you have your swap.btc (or whatever) you can send that (withdrawl from hive engine) to any exchange you want to sell for fiat and it will show up there as bitcoin (or whichever you chose). I use coinbase for that but then I haven't really converted anything to fiat, just other cryptos. However, coinbase works fine for getting USD too.

It sounds kind of complicated but really it isn't bad. In my opinion coinbase is the best option for getting USD from crypto in the U.S. (though they don't have the lowest fees). However, they don't currently support steem directly so you have to convert to something else first. That's why I use hive-engine. Another option instead of hive-engine would be to use bittrex. I don't have the specific instructions for that one handy but essentially you send your steem to bittrex and withdraw as a more common crypto to coinbase (or wherever) based on current market prices.

Thanks for the info, but I was kinda meaning more like how can I earn more Steem here, like how can I get the value of my posts and comments to go up. I'm trying to see if there is a way I can actually start generate a decent amount of currency through art or writing or whatever. Any pointers? :)

It's a matter of gaining followers and attracting more votes. Honestly, you'll probably do better on Hive. I had my Steem account first and still post here but I do better there. Looking at the trending page on Steem it seems most users are Korean here and Korean language posts seem to be the ones with all the votes. There are some exceptions. But the strategy is the same either way. Make sure your tags are accurate, particularly the first as that is used as a category. Find one or more communities that fit your posts to post in. Follow others who post stuff you are interested in. Comment on and upvote their posts when applicable and of course, make quality posts yourself. It's the sort of thing that grows over time as you gain more followers.

If you do decide to join hive (hive.blog), make an introduction post with the first tag being "introduction". Talk about your interests, include sample art work, and ask for advice about communities. You should get a healthy response though it can be hit or miss. Wouldn't hurt to do the same thing here even though you've already had a few posts.

Looking at the communities here, there are one or two good photography communities but I don't see much in the way of artwork. Hive has more. Check out the On Chain Art (https://hive.blog/trending/hive-156509) and Alien Art Hive (https://hive.blog/trending/hive-158694) communities. Hive even has an associated NFT showroom (https://nftshowroom.com/gallery) where you can turn your art into NFTs and sell it. Though I'm not the one to ask on how exactly that works since I 'm not much of an artist.

Doesn't hurt to post on both hive and steem to double your chances of getting some big payouts.

Thanks will do!

Say, which registration provider on Hive should I use? Ideally one without a phone attached.

I had an account upon creation of the blockchain since I had a steem account during the split. I'm not sure what the requirements are these days but you can try hive.blog, peakd.com, ecency.com, and leofinance.io to start with.
