Digital currency is any money that is only available in electronic form. Electronic versions of money already dominate the financial systems of most countries. Digital money differs from the electronic money already in Americans' bank accounts in that it never takes physical form. You can now go to an ATM and easily convert your electronic records of currency holdings into physical dollars. However, digital currencies never leave computer networks and can only be exchanged through digital channels.
