Finally, I've been able to work on and post my first reverse engineering tutorial.
So, in this demonstration I'm patching a binary from the very popular repository of crackmes. Up until not long ago, these crackmes were residing at crackmes.de, but for some reason the site has been discontinued.
However, some folks might have been able to get the databases of crackmes because the same crackme challenges have been put on other sites. The one that I'm using is crackmes.one because its interface is pretty cool. You could also access the cache of the old website using the waybackmachine on archive.org, but that's really not the case.
In any case, this first binary challenge that I solve is really easy and I'm only applying a dirty patch to it by filling a few memory addresses with NOP instructions.
Enjoy, and I hope you learn something from this!
