I purchased a new Carrera Mountain Bike last year to keep myself fit as I get older. Today my brother and I did a 14.5 mile cycle ride along the Chesterfield Canal, Derbyshire, UK to Rother Valley Country Park in South Yorkshire, UK. It's mostly flat with just a few small inclines, so I managed to do it comfortably.

Chesterfield Canal is a barge canal designed by James Brindley who sadly died before it was built. The canal was opened in 1777 and was built to export coal, lead etc. There has been major restoration work done over the years. The canal towpath is accessible to walkers, joggers, cyclists, families with pushchairs with variable access for wheelchair users and people with mobility scooters.
At the start of our ride we saw the boat 'Joan Amelia' which has been converted into a flower bed.
These are a couple of bridges we saw on our way to the park.
This statue represents 3 famous local people: Soldier, Cpl Liam Riley who died trying to save a colleague, L/Cpl Graham Shaw in Afghanistan, alongside Colin Savage (and his dog) who has campaigned to make the countryside more accessible and local boxer Clinton Woods.
We stopped to pick some sloe berries to make home made gin and spotted this little snail.

Reached our destination at the Rother Valley Country Park and had coffee and chips!
