I finally got around to zero'ing the offset on my Pioneer power meter, which you should be aware (apparently Garmin is not...) that "zero offset" is not the same as "calibrate". I won't bother explaining it because this article does a great job:

In any case, these two shots from Garmin Connect before and after are another good reason to make sure you zero your PM after you get it installed.

I was really suspicious of that left-right imbalance and it turns out my intuition was right. Once the meter was zero'd it went away, it was an artifact.
The process for zero'ing with a Garmin Forerunner 935 is as follows: pair up the meter as if you are about to go out for a ride. With the pedals level (and obviously your feet not clipped in) push and hold the center (Settings) button on the left side of the 935 unit, and you will see the Calibrate option. You press the Down button to make it start. You'll get a green check mark when it's done, it should only take a few seconds.
Long (for me) ride yesterday, 45 miles, first 1:22 fasted (to the top of Hwy 9), then a nice bonk and a Trader Joe's emergency stop on the way home.
It was good for a TSS of 285 and a weekly total of 501 so far, significantly more than I've done in recent times. So things are trending the right way. My VO2max also came up a point this week to 53 ml/kg/min, so that's heading the right way.
