DISCUSSION:
The great opportunity to share the Gospel in Lystra nearly ended in the death of Paul (v.19). The crowd that stoned Paul in today's reading are the same who, in few verses earlier, were eager to offer sacrifices to them. This shows how unpredictable human nature can be. The Bible says, "cursed is he who puts his trust in man" (Jeremiah 17:5). The support of the unbelievers and the commitment of Paul to go back into the town after regaining consciousness is great challenge to every Christian (v.20). This is total commitment to the cause of Christ!
Now, we see Paul and Barnabas beginning a return journey with three specific emphasis. Identify them in vs. 22, 23 & 25. What did they remind them of in v.22?
Finally, they returned to the assembly in Antioch that had commissioned them. This ended their first missionary journey: Paul and Barnabas came to report "what God had done through them" - mere vessels. They did not think it was their strength which had achieved anything. This is the right attitude for Christian service.
And so:
Praise the Lord for the work he is doing in his Church in our generation.
Prayer:
Pray for more labourers to go into the Lord's harvest field.
REMAIN BLESSED!
