Rhythm Palace Ecstatic Dance

With all the dogs and projects that we have going on here, sometimes I wonder if I have it in me to keep going. I have quit alcohol and I have quit smoking the ganja. I have no outlet except for petting dogs and eating Kit Kats.

In Denver, I went to an Ecstatic Dance group and it brought a lot of healing into my life. When I was at my lowest lows I was able to go in and dance my pain away. I even went when I was on my crutches after I had knee surgery. The energy and the power of movement surrounded by others really made me feel good. It was like being high on life.

After moving to Alaska, I have thought for some time how cool it would be to start my own ecstatic dance group. With my 29th year coming to an end in November, my goal for my 30th year was to get this started. I have done just that.

It is called Rhythm Palace and it is held once a month. I have had two gatherings thus far and I had a wonderful DJ, named DJ Evie come and play. Her music was a gift to the community and it was powerful.

Dancing is a release. Its nice to just be with yourself and shake your pain away. This month, I start my summer job as a tour guide and my schedule is shifting. I am a bit more stressed about organizing this one as it is hard to find a DJ who wants to come play for free.

Crossing my fingers I can keep it up. Its worth it.
