Salsa is an energetic and sensual dance style, with no boundaries. It is about being sexy and feeling sexy while moving your body freely to the vibrant rhythms of the music.

The Salsa originated in Cuba as early as the 1902’s, but were influenced by many places, it is a fusion of Latin and Afro-Caribbean dance styles like the tango, mambo, and flamenco. Santiago de Cali in Columbia is known as the Capital of Salsa. This Cheerful dance is the most popular style in the Hispanic communities.

There are different styles of Salsa, each unique to the area it is danced in like the Colombian, Afro-Latino (Salsa Mbalax is more African influenced than Latin), Cuban (the most traditional style), Miami, Reuda de Casino, Los Angeles and New York (developed by Eddie Torres in 1970”s). The movie “Dance with Me” made the Cuban style popular in America.

Learn How To Salsa:

Salsa has a pattern of six steps to an eight-count (4/4) beat, with three weight changes in each measure, the extra beat can differ on the style in how they use it. This dance style is fast with complex footwork and tight spins. It is a lead-and-follow partner dance, although it could also be done solo. In the Salsa, a lot of improvisation gets used and timing is vital to the fluidity. During the Merengue, weight shifts cause the hips to move.

Salsa Music:

Salsa music has a fast tempo with beats ranging between 150 beats per minute to 250. The Salsa music from Cuba is called, Timba. In 1964 Johnny Pacheco and Jerry Masucci found the Fania Records which caused the rise of Salsa music. The music includes the use of African percussion and the core groove is the clave (two wooden sticks that are hit together).

I love Shakira and J-Lo's Salsa music, whenever they sing the rhythm goes through my entire body and I cannot help but to move to the beat.

Anytime juvy, that will be absolutely groovy.

Hi @crazymumzysa, nice post, but I have 2 left feet.

Hello rynow, thank you. That is not a problem and can be sorted quick quick, you are not a lost case and your wife will love you even more if you can sweep her off her feet while twirling all over the dance floor. It is about feeling the beat, relaxing and allowing your body becoming one with the music.
