The weird thing about Sunshine is that Danny Boyle has embraced digital cinematography to a certain extent; but, Sunshine is a movie that still couldn't have been done without film.
The scenes in the observation room were all shot in a way that pushed every visual capture medium beyond their limits. You can't burn out a digital image in the way that they burned out the film images, and have a useful image -- much less a beautiful one.
If I'm gonna try to go ten stops over, I'm not gonna trust a digital camera. I'm only going to trust film.
