A global research company, YouGov, recently published a study on Bitcoin and Ethereum, mainly focusing on both the cryptocurrency’s future application. Questions that they asked were

  • Have you heard of Bitcoin?
  • Have you heard of Ethereum or Ether?
  • Have you ever used Bitcoin?
  • Have you ever used Ether?
  • What do you think people mainly use crypto currencies (e.g., Bitcoin, Ether, etc) for?
  • Do you think cryptocurrencies (e.g., Bitcoin, Ether, etc.) are mainly used to make legal or illegal purchases, or is it about equal?

Out of the 66% of survey participants that heard of Bitcoin, only 13% used it. While Ethereum was only heard by 24% of the survey respondents with a little over than a 1/5 of those people actually using the cryptocurrency.

Interestingly enough, out of the options for the application of cryptocurrencies 29% of people believe cryptocurrencies are used for illegal purchases on the dark web.
