Dream Market adds Monero (XMR): How to access XMR wallet

in darkweb •  7 years ago  (edited)

Since writing last month about how Dream Market (onion link) had added Bitcoin Cash to it's support currencies, and how to access the wallet, news broke last week of the darkweb's largest market now accepting the privacy based cryptocurrency Monero (XMR).

This comes as a refreshing alternative to Bitcoin that has been supported since 2013 on Dream and after many months of customers demanding that it be an option throughout the darkweb. It's worth noting that competing markets Wall St, Aero and T•chka have had XMR integrated for sometime already, with Dream playing catch up.

You might be thinking yes I heard, this was already announced days ago about how to access it on Reddit. Did you know that the unofficial Reddit page that was hosting the solution to accessing the Monero wallet was banned today? Probably not.

How to access XMR wallet

So let's run through quickly how to access the Monero wallet, if you haven't worked it out already from the Bitcoin Cash integration. As you can see from the screenshot below, on the face of it there is no XMR wallet, only BTC:

Quite simply, similar to the BCH wallet, add /xmrWallet after the mirror url. Example: jo5jaiz6euzmno2b.onion/xmrWallet.
Click enter and you will be taken to this page:

If you haven't excitedly already clicked on the big red button then do so, and you'll get the Monero integrated address with it's extra long key length.

Fees compared to BTC and BCH

As you can see the withdraw fee for Monero is 0.0003 XMR, which is currently less than 10 cents, while Bitcoin Cash fee is set at 0.0002 BCH which makes it just under 30 cents.

When compared to Bitcoin however, priced at 0.0002 +0.8% BTC, this sits at a minimum of 2 dollars, which is a staggering 20x higher than XMR and 6x higher than BCH. Not forgeting the 0.8% that no doubts reaches far on the darkweb.

Time will certainly tell whether darkweb customers, as well as vendors, start to move away from Bitcoin and it's costly, time consuming and far-from-anonymous transactions.

The odds definitely look in the favor of Monero (XMR) at the moment, and if spikes in investment from AlphaBay's integration last year is anything to go on, the time to buy would be now!

BCH withdraw error still present

As reported last month, BCH withdraw form is (still) listing BTC-Address as the designated receiving address. It goes without saying that this is meant to say BCH-Address, hence these altcoins are still in beta testing it seems, while integration is rolled out by vendors. The fee has notably been reduced by 60% from 0.0005 to 0.0002 BCH however.
