Buddy Teevens, the head football coach at Dartmouth, had his right leg amputated after colliding with a bicycle last month. His wife confirmed this on Tuesday.
In a statement sent by the school, Kirsten Teevens described the outpouring of support following the St. Augustine, Florida tragedy as "nothing short of fantastic." "Buddy is making a lot of progress as he works through the healing process for his wounds. Due to the severity of his injuries, Buddy's right leg had to be amputated as a result of the tragedy, the statement said.
He is awake, talking to us, and prepared to be transferred to a top rehab center to finish his recovery. If anyone is up for the challenge of treating spinal cord injuries, it's you.that Buddy. As a family, we are navigating this continuing recovery process and we appreciate your continued respect for our privacy.

According to a police report acquired by the Valley News, Teevens, 66, was hurt when a pickup truck struck him around 8:40 p.m. as he attempted to cross State Road A1A, the main beach road along the Florida coast, while pedaling home with his wife from a restaurant. He had been riding one of the couple's beach cruiser bicycles, according to Kirsten Teevens.
