God's covenant with David: I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations. Psalm 89:4

God not only made a pact with the patriarch Abraham but also with King David, to Abraham he promised the land, Canaan, and a numerous offspring, but to King David he promised a kingdom that would not be destroyed and would last forever: "Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever" 2 Samuel 7:16.
The Psalm 89 is a reminder of the promise made by the Lord to David of a liberating messiah, in a world surrounded by oppression and injustice. Psalm 89 consists of several parts, the first part is a narration of the pact between David and God, the second is a praise to the Lord for his blessings, and the third and last part is a plea for his forgiveness in the face of man's errors.
Thus begins the Psalm praising God for the perfection of his love and his fidelity to this covenant with David:
"I will sing of the LORD's great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known
through all generations.
I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
You said, ´I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David my servant,
´I will establish your line forever
and make your throne firm through all generations´" Psalm 89:1-4.
This pact between God and David is of great importance for the Christian religion, because it is from this pact that the prophecies about the birth of Jesus begin, the mission of Jesus in the world is based on the fulfillment of this covenant, and this mysterious Kingdom or Empire announced by the prophet Nathan is for the christian believers the Kingdom of God, a dominion or spiritual government for the redemption of humanity.
God is faithful and always keeps his promises, all Christian hope is based on this spiritual truth, and as the Psalm teaches us with true devotion:
"I will maintain my love to him forever,
and my covenant with him will never fail" Psalm 89:28.
