Out of my 16,000 Followers Only 1647 Are Not Ghosts

Most likely, what that tells us is that approximately 10% of the people here are interested in a social media experience, and 90% are here "just for the money." And when it turns out to not be "easy money," they lose interest.

That's a huge generalization, of course.

The problem starts with how this venue has been presented to the world. It's all "COME TO STEEMIT AND MAKE MONEY!!!" If you stand on the street corner and yell that, what sort of people will that attract? Most likely, not people who care about content creation, but people who care about MONEY.

I believe we are paying the price of never having put Steemit forth as a social content site (with rewards) and instead only talking about "make money." In marketing, you get EXACTLY what you "ask" for, directly or indirectly.

Initiatives like @abh12345's Curation and Engagement Leagues have retention rates FAR above community average because... well, they attract active participants and contributors, not just people seeking to fill their pockets. What we need are more things like that...

Of my 1836 followers, 1618 are 'ghost' and 954 are 'dead' followers. However, the definition of ghost is users who have not interacted with me in my last 100 posts. Dead is defined as not active for a month.

Not sure if I expect followers to engage. Many people are shy, just stealthy reading. I think the 'dead' followers measure does reflect the abandon rate for Steemit.

I'm not a ghost. I have followed you for quite a while now, and I always try to make a useful engagement on your posts.

The retention problem exists because Steem cannot possibly be an earning platform for everyone - at least not for long - without investors losing patience. Speculation on Bitcoin has lifted all altcoin boats, including Steem in recent years. But if Steem is to be a successful business, that is, one that brings in more fiat than it leaks, it will have to offer a range of produce things for consumers to consume. If Steem is to succeed in the future, the vast majority of future Steemians will have to be consumers of paid content or targets of advertising, not content producers. The premise that Steem is a platform for content producers only truly is a scam.

Ok so now we look at Steem apps that a higher retention rate than 10% and we massively focus every on those. That’s a strategy.

We've offered out the system to a few places, but they prefer the Curation over the Engagement for now.

Maybe it will change a UA grows.

Totally agree, it's a hell of a lot of work doing this, and only covering a small % of accounts.

I think one thing that would help greatly with retention would be an app that more easily lets people find the right people or groups. I know the hardest thing I've had to deal with is finding the right people who have content I'm interested in and to find people interested in my content. I wouldn't say I have it figured out yet either. I have had a hard time finding content that I have interest in on some days, I am assuming I just have not discovered the right way to search yet, but I'm sure plenty of other new people leave before figuring any of that out.

Is there already another Steem based app to facilitate finding groups for certain interests that I just haven't discovered yet?

Every little bit helps. I had switched from steemit to steempeak because it had a feature that let's you save your favorite topics which sounded like it would help with searching. Unfortunately, I discovered that it's not finding most content, even posts I had made myself using the keyword were not showing while I can still find them in the traditional search.

The more developers improve the apps the better retention Steem will have. If Partiko is also a mobile app I'll check that out too, I hadn't figured out how to get access to the platform on my phone yet.

It's been an interesting ride here I guess we could say. A time trap for most of us.

I was talking to one witness and he was basically acting like all those people dropping off are just quitters and not engaging. It was pretty ridiculous. He was actually trying to act like the Witness voting was fair and we don't really have problems here but people just want to complain.

You are a user since 2016 that´s part of the reason why that many amount of followers are no longer in the community. The other reason as you mentioned is user retention which is getting more and more attention, which reflects in new projects with a lot of potential to solve many problems.
