The curse of the petshop & a dead privilege

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today.

For the funeral of the pig named privilege. (AKA Stripe & miss piggy.)

It only lasted 6 months or so, when 8 years is supposed to be possible.

She had a visit to the vet when she stopped eating on Friday, and said vet suggested a university specializing in gerbils. So we headed straight there & privilege spent this last weekend in the university hospital, being treated by a leading veterinary surgeon/professor.

We found out via blood tests & other examinations, that the pig with a guinea, was inbred, hence suffering many different serious afflictions from this.

It is possible that her mother and father were brother and sister.

The shop responsible deny all knowledge of this, but have been reported anyway to the correct authorities in this area.
Even if it the shops supplier, someone needs to stop inflicting such a horrible living on animals.

This maybe a very easy way of making money fast, as the resulting off spring are guaranteed not to last very long, leading to more sales to upset parents of upset children.

To avoid this happening again, we are adopting a pig from a specialist at said university, one that at least should live to the grand old age they normally live to, ensuring my daughter is fully grown, probably no longer interested in said animal, and hopefully at university - before said new pig shuffles off this this mortal coil.

R.I.P. Miss piggy, you will be missed (but not at 3 am when you were trashing your cage).........

Amen.

Well that sucks - they are quite cute little things aren't they?

Like humans, they need Vit C supplementation to stay healthy, which is why they are used for experiments

Yes cute indeed, and fun, our dog loved to play with it, though it bit the dog on the neck once, and I have never seen so much blood on the floor from 1 dog ever before. Not one that lived that is.

Guinea pig didn't work out...Get pig instead...Makes complete sense. 😊

LOL got room for some on the farm, not sure I want to deal with the pungent smell though. :-)

It'll be a piece of cake after dealing with that pesky guinea pig probably. 🙂

Still not happening lol.

Haha, don't blame you.

Not a good thing if they are doing that on purpose ☹️. At least you should now not have those 3am wake ups.

Indeed not, and a silver lining to every cloud, till the next anarchist pig arrives lol. :-)

Hopefully no anarchist pig arrives 😲

Fingers crossed.

Glad you reported that animal cruelty.

As much as I do not like authority, animal welfare trumps all else. :-)

Inbreeding is a pet hate of mine, as it's all too common with the purebred and competition industry. I've had chickens, quail and one pet rabbit with issues from inbreeding. Luckily the rabbit lived over 8 years, but had a wonky mouth and regular teeth trims. The quails and chickens weren't so lucky.

Mrs just spoke to the vet about it, and he says they are trying their best to clamp down on it, but it is very difficult to control.

My son had an experience when we were at the animal shelter during a free adoption day. You have to be careful when shelters are over crowded and they are waving adoption fees. Usually when this happens they have multiple cats sharing a litter box and that allows for the transfer of disease's from one cat to another. Six months later and a six hundred dollar vet bill the cat was dead. Now I understand why the city animal shelter uses separate cages with litter boxes, the private shelter just had multiple cats in large caged area's sharing litter boxes. It sucks when kids lose their pets, especially if they haven't dealt with any type of death before.

Sounds terrible, and agreed, it sucks. Not had the bill yet, possibly tomorrow.
