Kiss of Death

An Oregon woman has sentenced to two years in jail for giving her jailed boyfriend a literal kiss of death.

During a prison visit at the Oregon State Penitentiary in June 2016, 46-year-old Melissa Ann passed seven methamphetamine-filled balloons to 41-year-old Anthony Powell during a kiss. Later, two of the balloons ruptured in Powell’s stomach. He later died of methamphetamine toxicity. U.S. District Judge March Hernandez blames both Blair and Powell for the death.

According to NBC, he said, “It was tragic and sad but he shares responsibility for what happened.” Powell was serving a life sentence for murdering his mother-in-law. Blair’s lawyer said she felt coerced to bring Powell the drugs even though Powell was behind bars. In addition to prison time, Blair is also required to complete three years of post-release supervision and seek drug and mental health treatment.
