Is China really introducing a national cryptocurrency?

Seemingly every news outlet or social media outlet has posts of China introducing a "national cryptocurrency." But how can this be true? Say this was a reality. China once had a fragile infrastructure (a lot of the news and social media will go on to say that it still does), if it were to introduce a national centralized cryptocurrency, then the infrastructure would go backwards. I mean take a look at Greece. The government in Greece are taking people's homes to make ends meet. Maybe Greece should jump on the decentralized crypto bandwagon. Can someone shed some light on this? Because I believe China and maybe a few other countries are going in the right direction allowing decentralized cryptocurrencies to be mainstay of everyday transactions for the everyday ordinary person.
