OBLIGATION OF RAMADHAN
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala said:

"O ye who believe, are required of you fasting as prescribed for the people before you so that you may piety." [Al-Baqarah: 183]

Allah says:

"Whoever of you is present (in the land where he lives) on that moon, then he should fast that month." [Al-Baqarah: 185]

Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said:

"Islam is built on five (joints)."

Then he sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam mention of them, fasting in the month of Ramadan. The Muslims have also agreed on the obligation to fast in Ramadan.

However, there are differences of opinion (ikhtilaf) regarding the (basic) naming of this month by the name of Ramadan. There is an opinion which states (from the perspective of maknawi-pent) that it is called Ramadhan because turmadhu (ترمض) fiihidz Dzunuub (this month the sins of man are burned) and الرمضاء شدة الحر (ar-ramdhaa 'The meaning is hot burning). [1] Another suggestion is that it was called Ramadan because the Arabs transferred the names of the moon from the ancient language, calling them the months according to the reality and conditions that occurred during that time. Then by coincidence this month fell right on the hot burning weather, it was named this month by the name of Ramadan. [2]

THE MONTHLY OF RAMADHAN MONTH AND ITS ESSENTIALITY
The month of Ramadan has many blessings, virtues and privileges not shared by other months.

The first blessing, is that Ramadan fasting is the cause of the forgiveness of sins and the erasing of mistakes.

As the hadith contained in ash-sahihain from Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu anhu, from the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, he said:

"Whoever fasts Ramadan because of the faith and expects the reward (from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala), will certainly be forgiven his past sins." [3]

And in the Shahiih Muslim of Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu anhu that the Messenger of Allaah alaihi wa sallam said,

"Prayer fardhu five times, Friday prayer to the next Friday, and Ramadan to the next Ramadan remove the sins committed between the periods if great sins are removed." [4]

The second blessing, this month there is one night better than a thousand months, the night lailatul Qadar. But on this subject will be discussed specifically and separately in the next chapter.

The third blessing, there are many other hadiths that explain the virtue and keistimeaan moon which is very barakah this, among which hadith contained in ash-Shahihain from Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu anhu, Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said,

"When Ramadan comes then the doors of Heaven are opened, the doors of Hell are closed and the shaitan's are shackled." [5]

Whereas in the narrations of an-Nasa-i and Imam Ahmad there is an addition: "Has come to you Ramadan, a month full of barakah." [6]

The fourth blessing, among the blessing of this month is the Muslims can achieve many virtues and benefits of fasting that is ukhrawi and mundane, among which are:

  1. Worldly Preferences
    First: Piety.
    Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala said:

"O you who believe, are required of you to fast as prescribed before the people before you to be cautious." [Al-Baqarah: 183]

Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam also said from the hadith of Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu anhu narrated in ash-Shahiihain:

"The fast is a shield, if one day one of you is in a state of fasting, then he should not say dirty and screaming. If someone denounces and censures him, he should say, 'I am fasting.' "[7]".*item
