OGLALA SIOUX TRIBE ‘FIGHTING BACK’ TO PROTECT BLACK HILLS FROM URANIUM MINE

Rapid City – With the Oglala Sioux Tribe set to argue Aug. 28-30 for its kind of protection of cultural resources from unprecedented uranium mining in the southern Black Hills, the tribal government and local groups urged members of the public to attend proceedings here and participate in a simultaneous outdoor cultural event to raise awareness about the issue.
A panel of administrative judges from the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLB) is supposed to be in town on these dates to hear from the tribe, the commission staff and intervenors in the case, which is focusing on the “reasonableness” of their divergent approaches to surveying tribal cultural, religious, and historical properties at the proposed 10,000-acre Dewey-Burdock in situ leach mine and mill.
Why it is that folks think that just because they got money to buy politicians that they can do whatever it is that they want?
I mean, seriously, do we really need to let uranium mine tailings poison the water of folks dependent on that water just because we need to plug in our Tesla?
Why do these people think that just because it will make them a lot of money, that it is ok to allow industrial pollution of lord knows how many people's water?
This is the system that you so blithely greet each morning with a shrug.
You really don't care that thousands of years of occupation of a land not belonging to corporations can be wiped away to feed the bottom line of those corporations.
It's not like it was your water, eh?
And, after all, it is legal.
That old white man in the black dress said so.
(I won't go into the Saturn worship behind that.)
Like the "hearings" will matter. It's already been decided. These hearings are just a show for the sheeple to make them think or masters care about people instead if corporations and profit/money/campaign contributions.
