Byrn: Building a decentralised finance protocol from the ground up.

in defi •  2 years ago

Let us start off by saying, we’re super excited to get the ball rolling and seeing everyone in the community at large.

We’ve come a long way since first entering the DeFi space with Ethereum. In this opening statement we want to run through the roadmap but also highlight some of the key issues at hand that we want to solve in the space and some of the solutions we have.

Without further ado, let us begin.

Blockchain and cryptocurrency has been ripe with fraud, hacks and other issues from the beginning of the smart contract era (think Ethereum/ERC20). From what began as Auror and even the first ETH fork, we saw an absolute monster in what was created. We have witnessed the rise of Layers 2s, zero-knowledge protocols and more recently zk-Snarks and more. The Decentralised Finance layer has been stuck in a relatively flatlined era with protocols such as Tomb, AAVE, compound, Pancakeswap, Uniswap being some of the most popular but similar products at hand.

The problems we’ve realised with these protocols is the similarity and difficulty of getting started. Herein are a few of these major issues:

Onboarding and On-ramping users remains one the biggest challenges for both the crypto and blockchain world. Tedious regulatory roadblocks still line the entire ecosystem from exchanges to OTC desks.
Decentralised Finance and as such, web3, remains one of the big mysteries for a majority of the population. How does one even go on chain? How do you even bridge your assets to zkEVM? What is zkEVM? This challenge is something that is enormously powerful when solved.
Infrastructural challenges and security. One of the main issues that has plagued the cryptocurrency ecosystem has been security loophopes, smart contract hacks and centralised exchange custodian failures. We see this as a problem decentralised ecosystems can solve but at the same time, smart contracts come with their own issues.
Going through these issues we can see that decentralised finance can be a solution to a majority of these. Our ecosystem — the BYRN ecosystem is built to withstand all of these issues. Our roadmap will be developed with the future in mind. We’ve seen dozens, maybe hundreds of projects come and go — we know what works, we’ve seen what failed. We’re here to change that with a few awesome products.

Stay tuned for the next episode as we line up our product roadmap along with even more juicy alpha for everyone of you getting started with the world of DeFi and Web3.
