Do you remember the football match in the European Championship in football between Denmark and Finland? Even though it was just an ordinary group stage match, it might very well be the most discussed football match in the entire tournament. Do you know why? Because instead of turning into a match about winning or losing, it turned into a match about the life of Christian Eriksen.
Before the match, we all had respect for the teams, but after the match, people spoke of Simen Kjar and Kasper Schmeichel as heroes. What had to happen for them to suddenly get this new role? A terrible tragedy in which the heart of Christian Eriksen had to stop.
It is terrible just to think about it, but it was in the midst of a terrible situation that Schmeichel and Kjar suddenly stepped up from being normal team players to become heroes and leaders who took responsibility, far beyond what they were supposed to and expected to do on the football field.
This wasn't at all a lucky situation, but often hardships and trials like that one are uncomfortable and terrible things. But, that is when we have the chance to endure, persevere, grow, and jump above the obstacles.
The thing is, you cannot prepare for such a situation. It is something you have to build on your inside already. You just have to trust that you will be able to make the right decision when the time comes and that you will persevere and endure in the midst of trials.
I consider Schmeichel, Kjar, the doctors who helped Christian Eriksen, and the rest of the team to be the heroes of June 13th. Before the match, nobody would have expected them to be the heroes, especially not considering that they lost the match 1-0. But, after the match, nobody cared about the result... they all spoke about the heroes from Denmark!
