spoiler alert
Frank Costello is a mafia kingpin. Only his reign reigns in his city. Although everyone knows about his misdeeds, it is not possible to bring him under the law without proper evidence. Billy Costigan has just joined the town's police force.
His late uncle was once notorious in the dark mafia world. The police department secretly wants Billy Costigan to be a part of Frank's crime
spree in order to gather the right evidence. Since Billy's uncle was part of the mafia world, Billy was easily able to join Franco's activities.
The Departed was the official remake of the Hong Kong movie Internal Affair. But Scorsese managed to make the movie in his own style. Scorsese introduced violence in his films.
His violence can be seen in this movie as well. His own style can be seen in crime films. In 2007, Scorsese won his only Academy Award for the film.
In my opinion, Jack Nicholson outdoes everyone in this movie. The scene showing the gun to Leonardo was not in the original script.
That scene was improvised by Jack Nicholson himself. Everyone who was shooting was a little surprised by the sudden showing of the gun.
Scorsese's crime films portray the mafia in a powerful way that not many directors are able to do in their movies. Be it Goodfellas, Casino or Scorsese's last movie The Irishman,
criminals can be seen playing power in this movie every time. The climax of the movie is a bit confusing. It took a while to understand the first time I saw it. Theift police game moves towards bloody conflict.
At the beginning of the film, it seems like a simple story movie, but at the end, Scorsese creates more excitement in the movie with a twist.
