Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable.
Depression affect an estimated one in 15 adults (6.7%) in any given year and one in six people (16.6%) will experience depression
at some time in their life.
Women are more likely then man to experience depression. Some studies shows that one third of women will experience a major
depression episode in thier life time.
FACTORS WHICH PLAY ROLE IN DEPRESSION
- BIOCHEMISTRY
diffrence in certain chemicals in the brain may contribute to syptoms of depression.
2.GENETICS
depression can run in families for example if one identical twin has depression, the other has 70% chances of having the illness sometimes
in life.
3.PERSONALITY
people with low self-esteem , who are easily overwhelmed by stress, or whon are generally pessimistic appear to be more likely to experience
depression.
4.ENVIROMENTAL FACTOR
continous exposure to voilance, abuse or poverty may make some people more volenrable to depression.
SYPTOMS OF DEPRESSION
feeling sad or having a depressed mood
Loss of intrest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed
changes in appetite wieght loss or gain unrelated to diet
trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
increased in purposeless activiteies or slowed movment and speech
feeling worthless or guilty
difficulty thinking concentrating or making desicion
thoughts of death or suicide
SYPTOMS MUST LAST AT LEAST TWO WEEKS FOR A DIAGNOSIS OF DEPRESSION.
TREATMENT.
Depression is among the most treatable mental disorders. Between 80% to 90% of people with depression eventually respond well to treatment.
Almost all patients gain some relief from their syptoms.
Psychotherapy or talk therapy is sometime used alone for treatment of wild depression , for moderate to severe depression.
psychollogy is often used in along with antidepresent medication.
